Sausages, smoky bacon, crispy hash browns, melted Cheddar and smooth baked bean purée — everything I love about a Full English Breakfast, wrapped up and toasted until golden.
🍳 A Full English, But Make It Portable!
There are certain breakfasts that just hit differently.
A bowl of cereal? Perfectly acceptable. A couple of slices of toast? Lovely.
But sometimes you wake up fancying a proper Full English Breakfast. The sausages, bacon, hash browns, beans… the whole lot.
And apparently, today I decided that rather than serving everything separately on a plate, I was going to attempt to stuff an entire breakfast into a tortilla.
Because why not?
Today’s Kitchen Notebook experiment is an English Breakfast Wrap from a recipe I originally discovered years ago.
Unfortunately, the website where I found it no longer appears to be working, but thankfully, past me had the good sense to save a PDF copy! After a little internet detective work, I even managed to track down the original creator’s YouTube video.
Now, naturally, I made a few adjustments.
The eggs weren’t invited. Anyone who remembers my Spanish Snackverse taste test and the unfortunate fried-egg-flavoured crisps incident will understand why. I also left out a couple of other ingredients and made a small change to how the sausages were prepared.
But would everything fit inside a tortilla? And, more importantly, would the boys actually enjoy it?
Well, I think we might have discovered a new household favourite!

📖 The Original Recipe
Today’s recipe comes from Gregory Dee, who originally shared his English Breakfast Wrap through Feast Fitter.
Although the original website no longer appears to be accessible, Gregory’s YouTube video is still available, having been uploaded on 11 February 2020.
The recipe takes the familiar components of a Full English Breakfast and transforms them into a generously filled tortilla, finished in a griddle pan until golden and crisp.
One particularly interesting part is the baked bean purée, which works almost like a sauce to bring the different breakfast ingredients together.

A Little Shopping Cupboard Victory
Something I particularly liked about this breakfast was that quite a few ingredients were already waiting to be used.
The sausages came from the same big freezer bag I’d bought for Spaghetti Cowboy Pie, while the bacon was left over from a previous macaroni cheese cooking adventure.
And baked beans?
Those are practically a permanent resident in my cupboard.
It’s always rather satisfying when ingredients bought for one meal can go towards making something completely different.
Especially when you’re trying to make the food budget stretch!
💷 The Budget Breakdown
Now for one of my favourite newer additions to our Kitchen Notebook reviews.
How much did these breakfast wraps actually cost?
The original recipe makes two servings, but I adapted the quantities to make breakfast for three — myself and the boys.
Estimated Ingredient Cost
Using online supermarket prices, here’s an approximate breakdown of the ingredients used.
| Ingredient | Estimated Cost Used |
|---|---|
| 6 value sausages | £0.45 |
| 6 smoked bacon rashers | £1.04 |
| 4 hash browns, estimated 240g | £0.66 |
| 1½ tins baked beans | £0.60 |
| Grated Cheddar, estimated 90g | £0.72 |
| 3 white tortilla wraps | £0.50 |
| Estimated Total | £3.97 |
The Cost Per Serving
Estimated recipe cost: £3.97
Original recipe yield: 2 servings
My actual yield: 3 generous breakfast wraps
If my adapted batch were divided into two: Approximately £1.99 each.
Cost per actual generous wrap: Approximately £1.32.
That’s three rather substantial breakfasts for under £4 in estimated ingredient costs!
What About the Full Shopping Basket?
If I were starting completely from scratch and buying every full packet, the estimated shopping bill would look like this:
| Product | Pack Price |
|---|---|
| ASDA White Wraps — 8 pack | £1.32 |
| ASDA Baked Beans — 2 tins | £0.80 |
| ASDA British Medium Grated Cheddar — 250g | £2.00 |
| ASDA Smoked Back Bacon — 800g | £4.52 |
| Iceland Ridiculously Crispy Hash Browns — 1kg | £2.75 |
| Butchers Market Value Sausages — 1.8kg | £3.00 |
| Full Shopping Basket | £14.39 |
Quite a difference between buying everything and calculating what actually goes into breakfast!
But, of course, there’s still bacon, sausages, cheese, hash browns and tortillas left for other meals.
And in my case, several ingredients had already been bought previously.
My Budget Verdict
At approximately £1.32 per generously filled wrap, I’m rather happy with this one.
It’s a substantial breakfast, and using ingredients already in the fridge, freezer and cupboards makes it even more worthwhile.
Budget note: Prices are online estimates rather than my original till receipts. The ingredient-use calculation includes estimated quantities for some products and excludes appliance running costs.
⏰ The Real-Life Timings
Ah yes.
The original recipe promises two English Breakfast Wraps in just 25 minutes.
Now, considering we’re cooking sausages, bacon and hash browns, preparing a baked bean purée, assembling the wraps and then toasting everything afterwards, I was interested to see how accurate that would be.
Here’s what actually happened in my kitchen.
My Morning
8:00am — Started preparing breakfast.
8:50am — Finished everything, including cooking, assembling and griddling the wraps.
Total elapsed time: 50 minutes.
I didn’t record separate preparation and cooking times this morning, so the 50 minutes includes absolutely everything.
From getting the ingredients onto the tray to finishing the wraps in the griddle pan.
But Here’s What I Really Liked…
One of the biggest advantages of this breakfast was being able to cook the sausages, bacon and hash browns together on one oven tray.
Rather than following the original method of cooking them under the grill, I used the oven on a high heat.
Once everything was safely cooking, I could get on with my usual morning jobs.
Laundry, emptying bins, tidying up…
You know, all those glamorous things that apparently still need doing even on a Sunday morning.
It made the process feel much easier than standing over several different pans trying to cook everything separately.
And considering the finished breakfast was so filling, I didn’t particularly mind that it took longer than the original recipe suggested.
🥓 One Tray, One Full English
I kept the general idea of cooking the breakfast components together, but used the oven rather than the grill.
Onto one lined tray went the sausages, bacon and hash browns.
No separate frying pans. No attempting to keep three different things cooking at exactly the same time.
Just one tray doing most of the work.

Once everything was cooked through, I transferred the finished ingredients onto a plate ready for assembly.

A Little Sausage Adjustment
Rather than squeezing the sausage meat out of its casings and shaping it into patties, I kept my sausages intact.
Once cooked, I sliced them in half lengthways.
It was a simple adjustment, but one I preferred for this particular breakfast.

And with the main fillings prepared, it was time for the slightly more unusual part of Gregory’s recipe.
🫘 The Baked Bean Purée
Now, I was particularly interested in this part.
Rather than spooning ordinary baked beans directly into the wraps, Gregory’s recipe turns them into a thick purée.
I actually think this is a clever idea because loose baked beans inside a tortilla sound like an invitation for breakfast to escape all over your plate.
Or down your top.
Possibly both.
For my version, I used one and a half tins of Asda baked beans, leaving out the original cayenne pepper.
I heated the beans before blending them into a thick, smooth mixture.

The final consistency was thick enough to spread over the tortillas rather than simply pouring everywhere.
And once combined with the grated Cheddar, it created a lovely cheesy bean mixture around the other breakfast fillings.
Definitely a preparation step I’d keep.
🧀 Building the Breakfast Wraps
Now for the moment of truth.
Would everything actually fit?
I started by spreading the baked bean purée across the tortilla, followed by grated Cheddar.
Then came the cooked breakfast fillings: hash brown, sausage halves and bacon.
I finished with more bean purée and Cheddar before folding everything together.

Looking at the amount of filling, I was beginning to understand why the original recipe recommended a griddle pan for the final stage.
These weren’t exactly tiny breakfast wraps!
But everything was assembled, and the next step was to get that tortilla lovely and golden.
🔥 The Griddle Pan Makes All the Difference
Now, this is one step from the original recipe that I definitely wouldn’t skip.
Once assembled, the wraps went into my hot griddle pan to toast.
Not only did this give the tortillas those lovely golden griddle marks, but it also helped seal everything together.
Which is quite important when you’re attempting to keep an entire breakfast inside one wrap.

There was a little bean purée trying to make its escape, but overall, the wraps held together nicely.
And the extra toasting made the finished breakfast look considerably more appetising than a plain, untoasted tortilla.
The griddle pan step is absolutely staying next time!
🍽️ The Big Reveal
And now for what might be my favourite photograph from this entire recipe review.
The cut-open breakfast wrap!
I sliced the finished wrap diagonally, revealing the sausage halves, hash brown and cheesy baked bean filling tucked inside.
And I have to say, it looked rather good.

Everything looked nicely tucked together, and that cheesy bean mixture had worked its way around the fillings.
Not a scrambled egg in sight.
Perfect.
I plated mine up, made myself a proper cup of tea and finally sat down to enjoy breakfast.

😋 The First Taste
Oh, this was GOOD.
Really good.
And filling!
The combination of sausages, bacon, hash browns, melted Cheddar and baked bean purée worked beautifully inside the toasted tortilla.
It genuinely felt like having a proper Full English Breakfast, just in a slightly different format.
The Breakfast Fillings
Keeping the sausages intact and slicing them lengthways worked well, so I don’t think I’d bother changing that next time.
The bacon and hash browns also made lovely additions, giving the wrap all those familiar breakfast flavours.
The Cheesy Bean Purée
This was probably the most interesting part of the recipe.
Instead of having individual baked beans moving around inside the tortilla, the smooth purée combined nicely with the grated cheese and brought everything together.
I’m glad I kept this element of Gregory’s original recipe.
The Toasted Tortilla
Absolutely worth the additional step.
Griddling helped seal the wrap, and the toasted exterior made it much nicer to pick up and eat.
Everything Together
A proper, hearty breakfast.
And considering the amount packed inside each tortilla, it’s definitely not one of those breakfasts where you’re wandering back into the kitchen looking for something else to eat twenty minutes later.
👦 The Boys’ Verdict
Now for our usual household review panel.
And after a slightly mixed reception to French Toast Casserole, I was interested to see how today’s breakfast would go down.
Well…I think we have a winner!
Big Boy
His official verdict? “So good.”
And once again, he backed those words up with a completely cleaned plate.
Another successful breakfast according to Big Boy!
My Spud
Now, this is the one that really made me smile.
Not only did Spud finish everything on his plate, but his official verdict was: “Really good, got to make again.”
A clean plate AND a request for a repeat? Well, for you, my little critic, I absolutely will!
I think we can safely say today’s breakfast received full approval from both boys.
👩🍳 What I’d Change Next Time
Now, this might be one of the shortest What I’d Change Next Time sections we’ve had in a while.
Because, quite simply…
I’d keep my tweaks!
I don’t feel the need to reintroduce the tomatoes, cayenne pepper or scrambled eggs.
And keeping the sausages in their casings worked nicely, so I’d prepare them the same way again.
The baked bean purée was worth making, and I definitely wouldn’t skip the griddle pan.
There is, however, one little thing I’d consider…..
An Extra Hash Brown for the Adult!
Because while the finished wraps were already generously filled, I think an additional hash brown for the adult portions could be rather lovely.
More crispy potato?
I see absolutely no problem with that.
Other than that, I wouldn’t change much at all.
🔁 Would I Make English Breakfast Wraps Again?
Absolutely!
In fact, according to Spud, I don’t particularly have a choice.
They’re officially on the make-again list!
I really enjoyed how straightforward the cooking process felt, particularly being able to get the main breakfast ingredients into the oven together while carrying on with my usual morning jobs.
The baked bean purée and grated cheese worked nicely together, and the griddle pan helped everything stay wrapped up rather than falling apart.
And do you know what? I reckon this is one of those breakfasts I’d happily make to impress a future Mr Chapters & Cravings.
A proper cooked breakfast, wrapped up with sausages, bacon, crispy hash browns and melted cheese, served alongside a lovely cup of tea? If that doesn’t impress him, I don’t know what will!
Although, he’ll probably have to fight Spud for the extra hash brown. 😂
But for now?
Three happy breakfast eaters. Two clean plates from the boys. One very satisfied mum.
What more could I ask for?
⭐ Final Rating & Thoughts
Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5
Taste: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5
Ease: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ 4/5
Family Approval: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5
Would I Make It Again? Absolutely — the boys have already requested it!
This English Breakfast Wrap was a definite success in our kitchen.
It took longer than Gregory’s original 25-minute estimate, but I enjoyed being able to prepare the main fillings together and get on with other things while they cooked.
The baked bean purée was a lovely idea, the griddle pan helped seal everything together, and the finished wraps were incredibly filling.
My little ingredient adjustments worked nicely, and I think I’ll be keeping them exactly as they are.
Well, perhaps with that extra hash brown next time.
But the best part?
Both boys finished their breakfast, and Spud has already requested another round.
I think that’s a rather lovely result for a Sunday morning cooking experiment.
