Unfortunately, the flavour wasn’t quite what I expected.

Instead of the cheesy, tomato-y pizza flavour I’d imagined, all I could really taste was basil—and not just a subtle little hint of it either. It was the first thing I noticed, completely dominated every bite and made the whole snack feel a little off-putting.

It was such a shame because the design was genuinely fun. If snacks were judged purely on appearance, these little crocodiles would have scored much higher!

This was one of those snacks that felt instantly familiar because we already have similar coated peanuts here in the UK. The big difference was the flavour. Bacon-coated peanuts weren’t something I’d come across before, so I was curious to see how they’d compare.

Thankfully, they were really good.

The coating was wonderfully crunchy, the peanut inside provided a nice contrast and the smoky bacon flavour was savoury without becoming overpowering. They’re exactly the sort of snack I’d happily reach for while watching a film or grazing my way through a snack table.

My only little gripe was just how hard the coating could be. A few had me chewing very cautiously because they genuinely felt capable of taking a chunk out of a tooth if I wasn’t paying attention!

These were one of the snacks that completely surprised me.

With salami being front and centre, I was preparing myself for a really intense flavour that could potentially become a little overpowering. Instead, they were far more balanced than I expected.

There was definitely a savoury, meaty flavour, but it wasn’t overwhelming. I found them much easier to enjoy than I’d anticipated, and they felt like the sort of snack I could happily reach for while watching a film without immediately needing a drink after every handful.

That said, I don’t think I could sit and eat an entire giant bag in one go. The flavour was enjoyable, but I suspect I’d reach my limit after a while. They’re probably best enjoyed in smaller portions rather than mindlessly munching through the whole packet.

Lemon-flavoured snacks and I don’t always get along, so I approached this one with a little caution.

Thankfully, the lemon flavour was much gentler than I expected. Rather than being sharp or overpowering, it added a light citrus sweetness that worked surprisingly well with the smooth chocolate coating and crispy wafer layers inside.

This was one of those snacks where my expectations and reality turned out to be two very different things.

When I read that it contained a buttercream filling, my brain immediately pictured proper cake-style buttercream—the kind I make for cakes and would happily eat straight from the mixing bowl if nobody was watching.

This is where the review gets slightly awkward because I never actually tasted this one.

The moment the wrapper came off, I was hit with a strong rum aroma and immediately knew it wasn’t going to be for me. If you’ve read any of my food posts before, you’ll know that rum and I are not friends.

Cakes, chocolates, desserts, drinks—if rum is involved, I’m usually out.

I considered giving it the tiniest taste in the name of snack research, but the aroma was more than enough to convince me otherwise. Sometimes you simply know when a flavour isn’t going to work for you, and there was no chance of this chocolate bar winning me over.

I do have to take a moment to mention the gentleman on the wrapper, because I genuinely can’t decide whether he looks more like Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation or Danny Dyer during a particularly moustache-heavy phase of his career.

This is one of those occasions where the snack never really stood a fair chance with me.

The moment I bit into one, I realised it belonged to a category of sweets I’ve never been able to get on board with. If you’ve ever eaten Love Hearts or those classic Swizzels Double Lollies, you’ll know the powdery, chalky texture I’m talking about.

For some reason, the moment my brain recognises that texture, it immediately says, “Absolutely not.”

Apricot isn’t usually a flavour I’d choose for myself and, because there was only one Smile Pancake in the box, I made the ultimate snack-tester sacrifice and gave it to the boys to share instead.

The snack consisted of two soft smiley-face pancakes sandwiched together with an apricot filling in the middle. It looked like such a cheerful little lunchbox treat—and judging by how quickly the boys devoured their halves, it must have been pretty good!

Sadly, that means I can’t personally tell you whether the pancake was fluffy, how strong the apricot flavour was or whether it might have changed my mind about apricot-filled snacks.

Sometimes being a mum means sacrificing the only pancake in your international snack box.

If you’d told me before opening this box that one of my standout sweet treats would involve pistachio, I’d have laughed and immediately assumed you had the wrong person.

I usually steer well clear of pistachio-flavoured snacks. It’s never been a flavour I actively seek out, so I approached this one with fairly low expectations.

To my surprise, it was genuinely enjoyable.

Unfortunately, this chocolate bar didn’t arrive in a condition that allowed me to give it a fair taste test.

By the time the wrapper was opened, the bar was heavily smashed and much of the blackcurrant filling had squished out inside the packaging. Instead of a filled chocolate bar, it had become a slightly chaotic mixture of broken chocolate and escaped filling.

Whether the damage happened somewhere between Hungary and the UK or because the delicate bar spent its journey being jostled around beside several cans in the box, I’ll never know. It certainly looked like it had been through quite an adventure before reaching my kitchen.

That isn’t necessarily a criticism of the chocolate itself. Shipping a delicate, filled bar across multiple countries is always going to be a bit of a gamble—and everything else inside the box arrived safely.

Sadly, its condition meant I couldn’t experience the chocolate and blackcurrant filling as they were intended, so it wouldn’t have been fair to judge the flavour or texture properly.

The easiest way to describe these is as a Hungarian take on a Jaffa Cake…except with cherry filling instead of orange.

The combination of soft sponge, fruity filling and chocolate coating worked well together, and I can absolutely see why they’re such a popular snack. The cherry flavour was pleasant without becoming overly sweet, while the chocolate added a nice balance.

Unfortunately, this one ran into a very specific Kimberley problem:

I’m just not a huge fan of jelly-filled treats.

It doesn’t seem to matter whether the filling is cherry, orange, strawberry or raspberry—the jelly centre is nearly always the part I enjoy the least.

The main difference is that Traubisoda is noticeably fizzier, giving it more of a sparkling soft-drink feel rather than something you’d bring out as a celebratory sparkling juice.

I wasn’t expecting much from it at first, but I found myself constantly going back for another sip. Every time I put the can down, I’d be reaching for it again a few minutes later without really thinking about it.

The white-grape flavour was pleasant without becoming overpowering, while the extra fizz kept it feeling light and refreshing rather than overly sweet. It’s one of those drinks that’s incredibly easy to finish.
