Handmade pizza, an outdoor cinema and two boxes that didn’t even survive until the film began…
Every year during the six-week holidays, our town holds an outdoor cinema in the park. This time, my brother-in-law and I took the boys and my niece along to watch Zootropolis 2.
We’d already brought plenty of snacks with us—because you can’t go to the cinema without snacks, even when the cinema happens to be in the middle of a park—but as we arrived around lunchtime, I spotted a white pizza van nearby.
Obviously, I had to investigate.
A Little Lunchtime Treat
The van belonged to Laff’s Pizza Company, a mobile pizza company serving handmade, wood-fired pizzas cooked right there inside the van.
There was a lovely selection of 12-inch pizzas available, with everything made fresh in front of you. Prices started at £10, with some of the more heavily topped options costing an extra £1 or £2.
Honestly, even at a maximum of around £12, I think that’s a bargain for a freshly made, wood-fired pizza—especially at an event where food prices can sometimes be a little ridiculous!
Despite already having enough snacks to keep everyone going through the film, I decided to treat us to two pizzas to share.
Margherita – £10
For the children, we chose a classic margherita without basil. It came topped with tomato sauce, generous amount of mozzarella and garlic oil.
I managed to steal a slice for quality-control purposes, obviously, and it was really good. I wondered whether the garlic oil might be a little strong, especially for the kids, but it wasn’t overpowering at all. It blended beautifully with the mozzarella and added a gentle extra layer of flavour without taking over the whole pizza.
Simple, cheesy and very easy to demolish.
Pepperoni – £10
The pepperoni was mainly intended for us adults, although sharing food around children rarely goes entirely to plan!
It had a really good spread of pepperoni, so you weren’t left with some slices covered in toppings and others looking rather forgotten. It had that lovely wood-fired flavour, plenty of melted cheese and another really tasty, freshly made base.
It was everything you want from a good pepperoni pizza—hot, cheesy and generously topped.
Gone Before the Opening Credits
The funniest part? Zootropolis 2 hadn’t even properly started and both pizzas had pretty much been devoured.
We’d bought them thinking they would give us something to nibble on while we waited for the film, but apparently nobody was interested in pacing themselves. Between the children and adults, those boxes emptied very quickly—which is probably the best review I can give!
Sitting in the park, sharing freshly cooked pizza while waiting for an outdoor film to begin felt like such a lovely little summer moment. It wasn’t something we’d planned, but sometimes the unexpected food finds are the best ones.
Good to Know
Laff’s Pizza Company is mobile, so you’ll find them appearing at different locations and events rather than at a permanent restaurant.
They can also be hired for private events, which is definitely useful information to tuck away for the future. Fresh wood-fired pizza made directly at your event? I can’t imagine many guests complaining about that!

The Final Verdict
This was such a good spontaneous find. Both pizzas tasted fresh, the toppings were generous and £10 for a handmade 12-inch wood-fired pizza felt like brilliant value.
The margherita’s garlic oil added flavour without overwhelming the mozzarella, while the pepperoni was satisfyingly cheesy with a good amount of topping across the whole pizza.
Would I buy from Laff’s Pizza Company again if I spotted that white van at another event?
Absolutely—and next time, I might have to order more than two!
