⭐ Five Stars — Dangerous Bargains, Delicious Slow Burn and One Very Inconsiderate Ending
Honestly, I knew I was in trouble the second I started Filthy Rich Fae. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. That was my first reaction, and honestly, it still sums things up. There’s just something about a dangerous fae prince, a heroine who refuses to back down, and so much tension that I kept forgetting to make my tea. Apparently, all it takes is a loaded conversation and I’m a goner.
It didn’t grab me right away—I had that moment of wondering if I’d picked up the wrong book—but once it found its groove, I was absolutely hooked. All the wealth, the secrets, the fae politics, and that delicious sense of danger made me want to curl up and stay there forever. And then Cate and Lach started circling each other, and I was basically yelling at the pages for them to just kiss already. I loved the slow burn, even if my impatient side was ready to throw the book across the room (in the best way).
I switched between the paperback and the audiobook, because apparently I have zero self-control when I’m obsessed. Raquel Beattie made Cate feel so real, and Aiden Snow’s voice for Lach? Perfection. My only (tiny, but not really tiny) complaint: we barely got to peek inside Lach’s head. Geneva, you gave us one chapter near the end? After all that build-up? I feel personally attacked.
Five stars, obviously. I was fully invested, impatient, and now I’m left staring at my bookshelf, wondering how I’m supposed to wait for the next one. If you need me, I’ll be spiraling over fictional fae men and making another cup of tea.

🔥 The Quick Take
Filthy Rich Fae had me hooked from the start. There’s this deliciously dangerous pull between the characters and a world that feels like slipping into velvet—just a little bit wicked and a lot addictive. Cate, our heroine, is all nerves and grit, and I found myself rooting for her at every turn. The romance is a slow burn (my favourite kind of torture), and every single Cate and Lach moment had me clutching the book a little tighter, desperate to see what would happen next.
And then there’s the fae politics, the secrets, and that ending—honestly, I’m still not over the cliffhanger. Five stars, no question. My only complaint? We barely get any of Lach’s point of view, and I am absolutely not okay with that. I need more of this mysterious fae man in my life, please and thank you.
♟️ Story Snapshot — Spoiler Free
Cate Holloway isn’t the sort of girl who looks for trouble, but when her brother’s in danger, all bets are off. Honestly, what else could she do? She marches straight up to Lachlan Gage—yes, that Lachlan, the one with the kind of power that makes you rethink your life choices—determined to save her brother, even if it means getting tangled up with the Gage crime family. And just when she thinks she’s got a handle on things, she finds out Lachlan’s influence isn’t just scary on this side of reality.
Turns out, Lachlan isn’t just a crime boss—he’s a fae prince. Because of course he is. Cate ends up making a bargain that ties her to him in ways she absolutely did not see coming. She’s got thirty days to wriggle out of this mess, which means braving the Otherworld, dodging all sorts of fae court drama, and trying to figure out what on earth Lachlan actually wants. Spoiler: he’s not exactly an open book.
And as if things weren’t complicated enough, Cate can’t help being drawn to him. (Why are the dangerous ones always so annoyingly attractive?) She’s desperate for answers and a way to take back her future, but Lachlan’s secrets keep tripping her up at every turn. She might have stepped into his world to save her brother, but now her own heart is getting tangled up in the bargain—and suddenly, the stakes feel impossibly high.
🌑 My Reading Experience
🗝️ Once It Had Me, I Was Staying
It took me a few chapters to really settle in—one of those slow-burn starts where I kept wondering if I’d missed something. But then, suddenly, I was hooked. There’s just enough mystery swirling around Lach and his world to keep me flipping pages, and the way he and Cate start circling each other? That’s where my heart got involved.
Honestly, that mix is my catnip. I found myself desperate to figure out what was really going on, but also just wanting to eavesdrop on every single moment between Lach and Cate. Once the story had its hooks in me, I was all in—constantly thinking, just one more chapter, just one more conversation. No wonder I ended up rating it so highly.
If you pick this one up, just know the setup and the slow-burn attraction need a little breathing room. But trust me, if you’re patient, you’ll get that magical reading experience where putting the book down feels almost impossible—like, who needs sleep anyway?
👑 Luxury With Danger Beneath It
Honestly, the fae world here felt like walking into a palace where everything sparkles and everyone is watching. All that luxury and those power games made it deliciously tempting, but there was always this edge of danger that kept me on my toes. I completely understood why Cate never let her guard down for a second.
I never felt lost in the worldbuilding, which is a small miracle considering how twisty fae courts can get. There was just enough court drama and hints of a bigger world to keep things interesting, but not so much that my brain wanted to tap out. Every detail seemed to matter for Cate, and I found myself right there with her as the world got bigger and more complicated.
What really got me was how the setting was both gorgeous and just a little bit terrifying. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to reach out and touch everything, even though you know you probably shouldn’t. That push and pull was irresistible, and honestly, it’s exactly why I stuck around for all the chaos.
🔥 The Slow Burn Had Me Talking to the Book
This was the one that had me absolutely hooked. You know that delicious tension that simmers in every glance and half-finished sentence? Cate and Lach are masters of it. Every time they were in a room together, I was practically holding my breath, waiting for something—anything—to happen. That anticipation pulled me right through the story.
Geneva Lee really knows how to keep a reader on the edge of their seat. I was impatient in the best possible way—every scene between them felt like something was about to tip over, but she never let it happen too soon. I kept finding myself reacting out loud (sorry, family), even when I didn’t get the payoff I was hoping for. The slow burn was absolutely worth it.
Honestly, I spent a ridiculous amount of time yelling (in my head) for them to just kiss already. But at the same time, I was loving the slow build so much that I didn’t actually want it to speed up. Apparently, I want fictional couples to move at exactly the pace that suits my mood. That’s normal, right?
🖤 One Lach Chapter Was a Tease Too Far
If I have one little grumble, it’s that we hardly get any time inside Lach’s head. Most of the book, I’m piecing him together through Cate’s eyes, and then—just when I’m desperate for more—we finally get a single chapter from his perspective right at the end. Honestly, I could have happily curled up with a whole stack of his chapters.
There’s something about his quiet, careful way that just pulls me in, so finally getting a peek at what’s actually going on in his mind felt like finding a secret stash of chocolate. All through the book, I was watching what he said, what he didn’t say, and the way he seemed to fill up every scene without even trying. That tiny taste of his inner world just made me want to know him even more.
Don’t get me wrong—I absolutely loved the story. But I was left with a whole list of questions and a very strong urge to beg for just a few more chapters with Lach. One chapter was nowhere near enough time for us to get properly acquainted.
⚡ An Ending That Felt Emotionally Offensive
I won’t spoil anything, but oh my goodness, that twist and cliffhanger? Absolutely savage. By the time I got there, I was so attached to these characters that being left hanging felt like someone had yanked the book out of my hands mid-sentence. I finished the last page and immediately needed to know what happened next.
The ending hit so hard because I was already all-in. I needed answers, more of the romance, and a peek at where the story was heading. Suddenly, I was left with a head full of questions and zero patience.
Five stars from me, plus a strongly worded imaginary letter to Geneva Lee about where she thinks it’s okay to stop a story. I adored this book, but I have so many feelings about being left on that edge. If you need me, I’ll be over here, impatiently waiting for more.
🖤 Character Corner
Character Who Grounded the Story: Cate, through her fear, grief and determination to keep going.
Character I Wanted More Of: Lach—specifically, much more of his perspective.
Dangerous Love Interest: Lachlan Gage, with all that controlled power and deeply inconvenient appeal.
Character Detail That Stood Out: How much Lach could bring to a scene while saying very little.
Character Whose Resilience Stayed With Me: Cate. Her vulnerability made her strength feel believable.
Favourite Dynamic: Cate pushing back against Lach while their attraction keeps getting harder to ignore.
Biggest Red Flag: The imbalance of power built into their bargain, alongside Lach’s secrecy and control.
Most Accurate Cate Description: Frightened, grieving, resourceful and still willing to push back.
Most Accurate Lach Description: Composed, dangerous and frustratingly difficult to read.
🕯️ Cate — Strength With Something Behind It
Cate just felt real to me. She never shrugged off her fear or grief, and honestly, that made her strength hit even harder. I found myself rooting for her, not just because of the romance, but because I genuinely cared about her as a person.
What I loved most was how she kept pushing back, even when everyone else seemed to have all the power. She never lost sight of what mattered to her, and I could still see her real, messy reactions as the world around her got wilder and the stakes shot up. It made her feel like someone I could actually know, even in the middle of all the magic.
👑 Lach — Every Quiet Moment Felt Loaded
You know those characters who just walk into a scene and suddenly everything feels different? That’s Lach. He’s all intensity and control, and honestly, half the fun was trying to figure out what on earth he was thinking. Even the tiniest moment with him felt loaded, like there was a whole secret conversation happening under the surface.
It’s the secrets and that quiet power that had me glued to the page, but honestly, it was his restraint that really got me. I just wanted to shake him and ask, what are you hiding? So when we finally got that tiny peek into his point of view, I was practically holding my breath. It was just enough to make me desperate for more.
🥀 Chemistry, Romance & Spice
🖤 The Romance
Cate and Lach’s chemistry had me absolutely hooked, mostly because it wasn’t just about the swoony moments. Their attraction was all knotted up with mistrust, fear, curiosity, and the whole messy business of their uneven bargain. Every conversation felt like it could tip into disaster or something wonderful, and I was living for that tension.
I loved how slowly their walls came down. It’s one thing to be drawn to someone, but letting them actually matter to you? That’s a whole different kettle of fish. The uncertainty kept me flipping pages, not just for the next spark, but to see if they’d actually let each other in.
The slow burn here really did its job. By the time things finally happened, I’d spent so long marinating in their tension that I actually cared about every little shift. Honestly, I got impatient more than once, but the wait made it all the sweeter.
🌶️ The Spice
I’m giving this one three chillies out of five, which feels about right for a book that makes you wait (and wait) for the good stuff. Honestly, the anticipation is half the fun here—the tension simmers for ages before anything actually happens, and when it finally does, it feels so much more satisfying. Sometimes the waiting is the best part, isn’t it?
What really stuck with me was the chemistry that just would not quit. There’s danger, there’s a definite power imbalance, and it all adds this delicious edge to their relationship. But don’t let the dark premise fool you—the spice is all about the slow build and that eventual, very rewarding payoff. Plus, the romance is just one part of a much bigger story, so you get plenty of plot to go with your pining.
Frequency: Occasional, following a prolonged slow burn.
Detail: On-page sexual content.
Kink level: Specific kinks weren’t a focus ; the power dynamic was.
Overall spice rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
🎧 Audiobook Notes
Narrators: Raquel Beattie & Aiden Snow.
Narration Style: Dual narration, predominantly Raquel Beattie as Cate, with Aiden Snow narrating Lach’s single POV chapter near the end.
🕯️ Raquel Beattie as Cate
Raquel Beattie absolutely poured her heart into Cate. I could feel every bit of Cate’s grief and fear, but also that stubborn streak that refuses to back down. It’s the kind of performance that lets you sit with the emotions for a while, and suddenly Cate feels like someone you could actually know—messy, complicated, and all the more real for it.
That really mattered, especially since we spend so much time in Cate’s head. I wanted to feel the weight she was carrying and actually get why she kept pushing forward, even when things got tough. The narration did exactly that, and honestly, it made me love book-Cate even more.
👑 Aiden Snow as Lach
Aiden Snow’s voice for Lachlan? Absolutely spot on. Deep, steady, and just the right amount of dangerous—exactly how I pictured a fae prince who could probably ruin your life with a single look. I only got a little taste of his POV, but honestly, it was enough to make me want to rewind and listen again. Swoon.
Of course, now I want more. His chapters show up pretty late, so if you’re hoping for a perfect split between narrators, just know it’s not that kind of audiobook. Still, I loved the casting so much that I would have happily listened to hours more of Aiden’s Lach—preferably while curled up with a cup of tea and a biscuit or three.
Honestly, both narrators made the whole thing feel richer. Raquel brought Cate’s emotions to life in a way that had me rooting for her, and Aiden made every second as Lach count. It’s the kind of audiobook that makes you want to press play again as soon as it ends.
💬 A Line I Had to Save

🖤 Final Thoughts + Come Chat
You know when two characters have that electric, can’t-look-away connection? That’s Cate and Lach, right from the start. Every conversation, every secret, every loaded silence—they all just kept tugging at me. I kept thinking, there’s no way these moments don’t mean everything. And with all the danger swirling around them, Cate’s feelings made every twist feel even sharper.
Honestly, I just soaked up the sheer indulgence of this book. It’s all glitz and danger, but Cate somehow keeps her feet on the ground, which I absolutely needed. The slow burn? Torture in the best way. I kept telling myself to be patient, and then the story would toss me another crumb and I’d be right back in. By the time I finished, I was clutching my Kindle and muttering that I wasn’t ready to say goodbye yet.
Raquel Beattie and Aiden Snow’s narration just made everything even better—like adding extra chocolate chips to already perfect cookies. I’m still over here waving my imaginary sign for more Lach chapters, but honestly, five stars was a no-brainer. The real headline? I finished and immediately wanted more. So much more.
