⭐ Five Stars — More Lach, Higher Stakes and a Cliffhanger That Felt Personal
Two days. That’s all it took for me to absolutely inhale Fallen Court, and honestly, I’m still not sure how Geneva Lee expects us to function after that ending. I was completely hooked—the tension just kept ramping up, the court politics got twistier, and the emotional stakes? Let’s just say I was flipping pages like my life depended on it.
I already thought Filthy Rich Fae was a brilliant opener, but this sequel? Now I’m even more obsessed. The real treat was getting more of Lach’s perspective. His control, his obsession, that vulnerability he tries so hard to hide—it all just made him even more irresistible. Safe to say, he’s now firmly on my book boyfriend list. Honestly, I might need a support group for this.
I switched between the paperback and the audiobook for this one, and honestly, the narration took everything up a notch. Aiden Snow and Raquel Beattie made the characters’ emotions feel so real, I was practically living in the story. With those performances, the swoony romance, and the ever-present danger, giving this five stars was a no-brainer.

⚡ The Quick Take
Fallen Court honestly gave me everything I could have hoped for in a sequel. The fae world got bigger and juicier, the political drama ramped up, and I found myself even more tangled up in the characters’ feelings. And the romance? Every time Cate and Lach were in a room together, I swear I was holding my breath. Getting more time inside Lach’s head was such a treat. Suddenly, all that control and devotion came with a side of vulnerability, and I was absolutely here for it.
I tore through this book in two days flat, completely swept up in all the drama and scheming. The audiobook made it feel like I was watching a movie in my own head—popcorn not included, sadly. And that cliffhanger? Utterly rude. I’m still not over it. Five stars, easily, for a story that kept me hooked right up to its very last, deeply inconsiderate page.
♟️ Story Snapshot — Spoiler Free
If you’ve already met Cate and Lach in book one of Filthy Rich Fae, you’ll want to buckle up for Fallen Court. Cate, our favourite trauma nurse who somehow keeps stumbling into fae trouble, is now tangled up in even more dangerous deals and power plays. Honestly, I’d have run for the hills by now, but Cate? She’s braver than I’ll ever be.
Lachlan Gage is still ruling the Nether Court, which sounds glamorous until you realise it mostly means collecting enemies and headaches. The fae courts are circling, trouble is brewing, and poor Lach is trying to keep Cate safe while their relationship gets more complicated by the minute. My nerves were in shreds.
Secrets are flying, alliances are shifting, and Cate and Lach are stuck trying to figure out who to trust—including each other. The romance? It’s a wild ride of trust issues and longing looks, all while the fae world keeps raising the stakes. If you love a story that keeps you guessing (and occasionally yelling at the characters), this one’s for you.
🌑 My Reading Experience
⚡ Two Days, and I Was Completely Caught Up
If I finish a book in two days, you know it’s doing something right. With Fallen Court, I just couldn’t stop—every time I thought I’d put it down, the tension yanked me right back in. The drama never let up, and before I knew it, I was completely tangled up in the characters’ messes and feelings.
I loved how everything just kept ramping up. The sequel threw open the doors to more of the world (and more trouble for everyone), but still kept that central connection between the characters—the bit I was really there for—front and centre. It’s like the series took everything I already liked and sprinkled in even more reasons to stay up past my bedtime.
By the end, I’d inhaled every last page and was left staring at the ceiling, wondering how I was supposed to wait for the next one. That blend of pure enjoyment and a slightly dramatic sense of betrayal at the cliffhanger pretty much sums up my whole reading experience.
🖤 More Lach POV Was Exactly What I Wanted
Getting those extra chapters from Lach’s point of view? That was a game changer. Suddenly, he wasn’t just the mysterious, brooding love interest—he was layered and complicated, with all this control and obsession swirling around under the surface. And the vulnerability? Oh, it hit me right in the feelings.
Honestly, that glimpse of vulnerability made all his intensity so much more interesting. Watching him try to keep it together while juggling all those messy feelings about power and protection? I was completely hooked. It’s like you finally get to see the cracks in his armor, and suddenly he’s even more irresistible.
So yes, I am now officially and hopelessly invested in Lach. He was already intriguing, but after this book? He’s carved out a permanent spot on my book boyfriend list. Apparently, all it takes is a peek into his head and I’m a goner. I’ve made my peace with it.
♟️ Court Politics That Made the Danger Feel Bigger
You know that feeling when a book suddenly throws open the doors and lets you peek into all the secret rooms? That’s exactly what happened for me in this instalment. The court politics, all the scheming and shifting hierarchies, suddenly felt so much bigger and juicier. It made everything swirling around Cate and Lach snap into focus—and honestly, I was hooked.
There was a lot going on, but it never felt overwhelming. I could still keep up with all the twists and turns without losing sight of the characters I cared about (which is so important, especially when the politics start piling up). Every new power play made the stakes feel higher, and suddenly I was genuinely worried for everyone’s safety—my heart was definitely in my throat a few times.
Honestly, that’s what made this sequel shine for me. The world just kept getting bigger, and as the courts started showing their true colours, I found myself second-guessing everyone’s motives. I was right there with Cate, wondering who to trust and bracing myself for whatever disaster might be lurking around the corner.
🔥 Tension That Kept Getting Under My Skin
Honestly, every time Cate and Lach were on the page together, I was practically holding my breath. The way their attraction kept bumping up against all that vulnerability and need for control? Absolutely delicious. I found myself rooting for them so hard, even when the world seemed determined to make things impossible.
And can we talk about the steam? The timing was spot on—just when I needed it, the story delivered those intense, emotional moments that made everything between them feel even more real. The romance, the danger, the drama—it all just kept building until I was basically glued to the page.
That balance is exactly what kept me hooked. I was just as invested in all the court intrigue as I was in Cate and Lach’s will-they-won’t-they. Honestly, I barely noticed the chapters flying by—I just wanted to see what would happen next.
🗡️ That Ending Deserves a Conversation
Don’t worry, I’m not spoiling a thing, but oh my goodness, that cliffhanger absolutely knocked me sideways. I finished the last page and immediately started frantically searching for the next book, as if my brain couldn’t rest until I knew what happened next.
Honestly, leaving us hanging like that felt borderline criminal. By that point, I was so tangled up in the characters and their messy, swoony romance that I might as well have been living in the book myself. Geneva Lee really knows how to make you care—and then twist the knife, just for fun.
Five stars, no question. I’m still reeling, still desperate for answers, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
🖤 Character Corner
Standout Character: Lach, especially with the extra access to his point of view.
Most Compelling Character: Lach—the control and vulnerability make a fascinating combination.
My Fictional Crush: Lach. His place on the book boyfriend list is permanent.
Character Detail That Stayed With Me: How much emotion sits beneath his controlled exterior.
Character Whose Resilience Stood Out: Cate, particularly through Raquel Beattie’s performance.
Favourite Dynamic: Cate and Lach’s attraction, vulnerability and ongoing negotiation of trust.
Biggest Red Flag: The possessiveness and imbalance of power within their already dangerous world.
Most Accurate Cate Description: Carrying trauma, finding her way through danger and holding onto her resilience.
Most Accurate Lach Description: Controlled power, obsessive devotion and vulnerability he cannot entirely hide.
🕯️ Cate — Resilience in a World That Keeps Testing Her
Cate is the heart of this story for me. While everyone else is busy plotting and scheming, she’s just trying to figure out who she can actually trust—and honestly, I felt for her. The way she moves through all those tangled loyalties and shifting rules, carrying her own history with her, made me want to reach into the book and offer her a cup of tea and a biscuit.
Her relationship with Lach is a whole emotional rollercoaster. The chemistry is definitely there, but it’s tangled up with all these questions about trust and power—like, can you really let your guard down with someone who could break your heart or save you, depending on the day? It’s messy and complicated and I loved how the romance always came back to what Cate was feeling, not just the swoony moments.
Raquel Beattie’s narration really brought Cate to life for me. She made all those big feelings—hurt, hope, stubbornness—feel real and close, even when the plot was ramping up and everything was getting a bit wild. No matter how high the stakes got, Cate’s emotions never got lost in the shuffle, and I was right there with her the whole way.
👑 Lach — A Permanent Place on the List
Lach completely stole the show for me. Getting inside his head made all those tightly held feelings suddenly feel so real and raw, and honestly, that emotional messiness is exactly what made this sequel hit so hard for me.
There’s this delicious tension with Lach—he’s all power and protectiveness on the outside, but inside? He’s a complete emotional disaster, and I mean that in the best way. He’ll do anything for Cate, and seeing just how much he cares made his devotion feel so much heavier and, honestly, impossible to resist.
And then Aiden Snow’s narration? Perfection. He nailed that whole calm-but-slightly-unhinged vibe, and suddenly I was fully on board the Lach train. Between the writing and the audiobook, falling for this book boyfriend was basically a foregone conclusion.
🔥 Chemistry, Romance & Spice
🖤 The Romance
Cate and Lach’s romance? Oh, it’s the kind that grabs you by the collar and refuses to let go. It’s messy, complicated, and a little dangerous, with trust and vulnerability tangled up in power games. I could practically feel the intensity crackling off the page.
Honestly, that’s exactly why I couldn’t look away. Their connection feels like it actually matters, and the constant sense of danger just turns up the heat on emotions that are already threatening to spill over. The push and pull between them isn’t just about sparks—it’s about real feelings, and I was absolutely here for it.
Getting those extra glimpses into Lach’s head made everything hit harder for me. Seeing just how much he feels for Cate gave the whole romance more weight, and I found myself rooting for them even more. It’s that extra layer of intensity that really pulled me in, because by then, I was already half in love with both of them.
🌶️ The Spice
This one definitely earns its three-chilli rating from me. The intimate scenes are not just spicy—they’re intense and honestly, they slot in so perfectly with all the plot twists, political scheming, and those big emotional moments. It’s the kind of balance that makes you want to read just one more chapter (and then suddenly it’s midnight).
Honestly, the tension between Cate and Lach is doing some serious heavy lifting here. When they finally get together, it feels so earned. All that vulnerability and their messy, complicated dynamic just spills right into the steamy bits, so it never feels out of place—it’s all tangled up in their relationship and makes the whole thing hit even harder.
If you’re an audiobook person, this one is a treat. Hearing all those emotions acted out just cranks up the chemistry—sometimes I had to pause and take a breath! Aiden Snow and Raquel Beattie are such a good match for these characters, too. Highly recommend listening if you want to feel all the feels.
Frequency: Intimate scenes woven between the plot and political developments.
Detail: Explicit, open-door intimacy.
Kink level: Dominance and control are part of the dynamic.
Overall spice rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
🎧 Audiobook Notes
Narrators: Aiden Snow & Raquel Beattie.
Narration Style: Dual narration, with both protagonists’ perspectives
👑 Aiden Snow — Lach’s Control and Devotion
Aiden Snow gave Lach exactly the mix of controlled dominance and that quietly unhinged devotion I was hoping for. He made all that intensity feel so natural, but you could still hear every bit of emotion bubbling underneath.
Lach’s perspective was already my favourite thing about the story, so hearing it brought to life like this just made the audiobook extra satisfying. The authority, the tension, the vulnerability—it all just confirmed what I suspected: there’s so much happening under that careful control.
Honestly, it worked a little too well for me. I’ll admit it: Aiden’s narration definitely nudged Lach higher up my ever-growing list of book boyfriends.
🕯️ Raquel Beattie — Cate’s Emotional Grounding
Raquel Beattie made Cate’s trauma, resilience, and all that emotional depth feel so real and close, even as the story got bigger and more tangled up in politics.
That emotional grounding really mattered to me. With all the danger and manipulation swirling around Cate, the narration made her feelings feel heavy and real, and I felt the pressure right along with her. It pulled me closer to her, both in the romance and in the bigger story.
Together, Raquel and Aiden turned the audiobook into something cinematic and completely immersive. The atmosphere, the intensity, the emotional pull—it all just made an already gripping story even more addictive.
Would I recommend listening? If you’re torn on which format to pick, I’d go for the audiobook. The narration adds so much intensity and character depth, and honestly, it made the whole story even harder to put down.

✨ The Bookish Extras
📸 Meet Lach

My imagined version of Lach, inspired by his character descriptions in the book. An AI-created character interpretation.
🎵 The Soundtrack
The mood for this one is dark and seductive, with quiet devotion beneath the danger. Think secrets, power struggles, attraction that refuses to settle down and the emotional weight of having something to lose.
📌 Enter Cate and Lach’s World
Shadowy silhouettes, fae details, dark florals and an atmosphere of beauty edged with danger. The mood board brings together the defiance, intrigue and darker magic surrounding the story, with the same sense that there’s more beneath the surface than you can immediately see.

- A sequel that deepens your investment. This built on what I liked about book one and left me needing the story to continue.
🌫️ You May Want to Skip It If…
This may not be for you if:
- You need a complete, resolved story in one book. This is the second instalment of an ongoing narrative, and the cliffhanger is a major part of the experience.
- Cliffhanger endings leave you more frustrated than intrigued. Mine came with a great deal of emotional flailing, even though I loved the book.
- You prefer gentle romance with straightforward power dynamics. Control, possessiveness and danger are central to this relationship and its setting.
- You want the romance without much political intrigue. Court hierarchy, manipulation and changing loyalties become increasingly important here.
- The darker content falls outside your reading comfort zone. Check the author’s warnings before deciding whether to continue the series.

🌙 Final Thoughts + Come Chat
I was already having a great time with this series, but Fallen Court somehow pulled me in even deeper. Suddenly the world felt bigger, the court politics got juicier, and the stakes shot up in a way that had me glued to the story. I finished it in two days flat, which tells you everything you need to know about how hard it was to put down.
But let’s talk about the real game-changer: extra Lach POV. Suddenly, all that control and devotion got a layer of vulnerability I didn’t know I needed, and now I’m even more invested in the romance (send help). Cate’s resilience hit just as hard, especially with Raquel Beattie giving her such a strong voice. I felt every bit of it.
If you’re thinking about the audiobook, I have to say—it felt like watching a movie in my head. Aiden Snow and Raquel Beattie absolutely nailed the tension and all those deliciously dark vibes. I’d happily recommend this version if you’re on the fence.
Five stars, no question. The intensity, the politics, the emotional gut-punches—I loved it all. And honestly, I am still not over that ending. Geneva Lee, how could you leave us like that? I’m going to need the next book immediately, please and thank you.
So, did the extra Lach POV have you falling even harder, or is it just me? If you tried the audiobook, I need to know—did Aiden Snow and Raquel Beattie ruin you in the best way? And can we please agree that the ending left us all needing a moment (or several) to recover?
