Flawless is the kind of romance that sneaks up on you—soft and fluffy one minute, then bam… your heart is racing and you’re completely invested.

Think cowboy charm, forced proximity, sharp banter and chemistry that practically crackles off the page—or, in this case, directly through your headphones.

It was one of my favourite romances when I first read it in 2023, and revisiting Rhett and Summer confirmed that the magic is very much still there.

Rhett Eaton is a professional bull rider whose reputation is beginning to spiral out of control. He might be brilliant in the arena, but his behaviour away from it is causing problems for his career—and his sponsors are rapidly losing patience.

Enter Summer Hamilton: his agent’s daughter, assigned to keep Rhett out of trouble and repair his public image for the remainder of the season.

Neither of them is particularly happy about the arrangement.

What starts as a reluctant professional partnership soon becomes considerably more complicated. Between rodeo circuits, small-town life and far too much time spent together, their initial resistance gives way to sharp banter, genuine friendship and an attraction neither of them can continue to ignore.

It’s grumpy cowboy meets sunshine energy, with plenty of forced proximity and a whole lot of tension in between.

💛 The Reread That Still Hits

My cowboy love has officially intensified. 🤠

I first read Flawless back in 2023, and there is always a tiny risk when returning to a favourite that it won’t hit quite the same way. Perhaps the characters will feel different, the chemistry won’t seem as strong or the story simply won’t create that original spark.

Thankfully, I had absolutely nothing to worry about.

Revisiting Flawless through the audiobook was still, well… flawless. If anything, I appreciated the story even more the second time around.

Because I already knew where Rhett and Summer’s relationship was heading, I could pay closer attention to all the smaller interactions that gradually brought them together. The little moments, hidden vulnerabilities and subtle changes in their dynamic stood out more this time.

The magic didn’t disappear during my reread. It settled in, got comfortable and reminded me precisely why I loved this book in the first place.

💬 Banter That Deserves an Award

The banter in this book is honestly elite.

It’s quick, witty and feels completely natural. Nothing sounds as though it has been forced into the conversation simply to create a funny moment. Rhett and Summer bounce off one another perfectly, and their teasing becomes an essential part of their chemistry.

Summer isn’t intimidated by Rhett’s confidence, fame or grumpy attitude. She gives as good as she gets, calls him out when necessary and refuses to let him charm his way around her responsibilities.

Rhett, naturally, takes that as a challenge.

Their back-and-forth creates some of the most entertaining moments in the book, but it also allows their relationship to develop beyond physical attraction. Through every sarcastic remark and perfectly timed comeback, you can feel them learning how the other person thinks.

It’s teasing, it’s sharp, and it builds the tension in the best possible way.

💞 A Romance That Just Works

The fluff? Fluffy.

The romance? Perfection.

Rhett and Summer’s relationship develops in a way that feels believable and satisfying. Their attraction may be there early, but the emotional connection isn’t rushed. They have time to understand one another beneath the reputations and assumptions that initially stand between them.

Summer sees more than the arrogant, reckless cowboy presented by the media. She begins to recognise the pressure Rhett carries, the complicated family dynamics behind his confidence and the softer side he doesn’t readily show to everyone.

Meanwhile, Rhett sees Summer as far more than his agent’s capable daughter. He notices her strength, her warmth and how much responsibility she quietly carries for everyone around her.

Their romance has that perfect combination of comfort and tension. There are soft moments that make you melt, frustrating moments that make you want to lock them in a room until they communicate properly, and charged moments where the chemistry becomes impossible to ignore.

When the relationship finally tips over into something more, you absolutely feel the payoff.

🏡 The Chestnut Springs Feeling

One of my favourite parts of Flawless is how easily Chestnut Springs begins to feel like somewhere you know.

The Eaton family brings warmth, humour and just enough chaos to make the world feel lived-in. Their relationships aren’t perfect, but that’s part of the appeal. There is love underneath the teasing, interference and occasional family drama.

The small-town and ranch setting adds so much comfort to the story without overwhelming the romance. Between the rodeo atmosphere and the Eaton family dynamics, the book creates the kind of fictional world you immediately want to return to.

It also does exactly what the first book in an interconnected series should do: delivers a complete and satisfying romance while leaving you intrigued by the characters waiting for their own stories.

🐂 More Than the Confident Cowboy

Rhett initially appears to be exactly what his public reputation suggests: reckless, cocky and far too confident for his own good.

But that version of him is only part of the story.

Behind the attitude is someone who feels the pressure of his career, his family and everyone’s expectations of him. His confidence disguises a much softer and more vulnerable side, and watching Summer gradually uncover it is one of the best parts of their romance.

He isn’t perfect—and the book doesn’t pretend that he is. He can be stubborn, frustrating and spectacularly bad at handling his emotions. But seeing him care for Summer, recognise his mistakes and begin thinking seriously about the life he wants makes his development incredibly satisfying.

And honestly? The attitude, the confidence and the hidden softness?

It’s a problem.

A very welcome problem.

🤠 Rhett Eaton… Sir?

Now, the real issue:

How exactly do I bring a Rhett Eaton into reality?

Because this man has the confidence, the attitude and the cowboy charm—but underneath all that swagger is someone far softer than he wants people to realise.

He’s protective without making Summer seem incapable, vulnerable without losing the larger-than-life personality that makes him so entertaining, and utterly gone for her long before he knows what to do about it.

I’m still not over him. I’m not convinced I ever will be.

Summer deserves plenty of appreciation too. She is intelligent, capable and warm, but she isn’t simply there to fix Rhett. She has her own pressures and vulnerabilities, and I loved watching her confidence grow as she allowed herself to want something beyond the carefully controlled future she had imagined.

Together, they just work.

💞 The Romance

The emotional and physical chemistry between Rhett and Summer is present from their earliest interactions, but it’s allowed to simmer.

Their forced proximity gives them plenty of opportunities to annoy one another, challenge assumptions and slowly build trust. That makes the romance feel much more rewarding than an immediate attraction with no emotional foundation.

There’s flirting, yearning, tenderness and enough tension to have you waiting impatiently for one of them to finally do something about it.

When Rhett’s softer side starts appearing? Done. Finished. No recovery possible.

🌶️ The Spice

Sizzling. That’s the word.

The steamy scenes are not subtle and, honestly? Thank you, Elsie Silver.

The spice works because it feels like a natural extension of Rhett and Summer’s relationship. All that banter, forced proximity and simmering attraction has been building towards something, and the eventual payoff delivers.

Let’s just say this is probably not a “read in public” situation unless you have a rock-solid poker face. I was out there biting my lip, trying not to smirk as though I knew something everyone else didn’t. 😅

My three-chilli rating feels right: the scenes are explicit and memorable, but they don’t dominate the entire story or replace the emotional development.

This casting? Perfect.

Sebastian York as Rhett Eaton is dangerously good. Some of those lines had me fully melting while listening. The voice, the tone and the delivery suit Rhett’s confident cowboy personality perfectly.

He captures the swagger without losing the vulnerability beneath it, making Rhett’s softer moments land just as strongly as his flirtier ones.

Emma Wilder brings Summer to life with the right balance of strength and warmth. Her performance captures Summer’s professionalism, intelligence and emotional vulnerability, making her feel like a complete character rather than simply Rhett’s love interest.

Together, the narrators make Rhett and Summer’s chemistry feel even more real. Reading the physical book was wonderful, but the audiobook added another layer to a story I already loved.
