A new month means another stamp in our SnackVerse passport—and September is taking us to Slovakia!

After discovering the flavours of Hungary, Spain and Portugal, our European snack tour is continuing with a box packed with Slovakian crisps, chocolates, wafers, sweets and one rather unusual-looking drink.

Portugal is currently sitting proudly at the top of the SnackVerse leaderboard after delivering the most consistent box so far. Can Slovakia steal the crown—or will it leave me wishing our next box would finally travel beyond Europe?

There’s only one way to find out.

Let’s open the box!

🌍 This Month’s Snack Stop

Slovakia is a landlocked country in Central Europe, sharing borders with the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Ukraine and Hungary.

Despite being relatively small, Slovakia is home to dramatic mountains, ancient castles, traditional villages and plenty of beautiful countryside. The country even has more castles and châteaux per person than almost anywhere else in the world!

Slovakian food is comforting, hearty and heavily influenced by the country’s farming traditions. Potatoes, cabbage, dairy products, dumplings and smoked meats appear frequently in its traditional dishes.

Its national dish is bryndzové halušky—small potato dumplings served with bryndza sheep’s cheese and crispy bacon. I’m not expecting a bowl of that inside the box, admittedly, but I’m very curious to discover which Slovakian flavours have made the journey instead!

I was secretly hoping we might travel beyond Europe after visiting Hungary, Spain and Portugal, but Slovakia is still a completely new country for me to explore through food. I don’t think I could’ve named a single Slovakian snack before opening this box, which makes everything inside a genuine discovery.

My first impression was that the box contained a really colourful mixture of products. There were several large bags of savoury snacks sitting at the top, with plenty of chocolate bars, wafers and sweets tucked underneath.

The balance is slightly better than Portugal’s very sweet-heavy selection, with six savoury snacks, thirteen sweet treats and one drink.

There are plenty of unfamiliar Slovakian brands to discover, including Sedita, Figaro, Deva, SlovChips and Namex. Wafers appear to be particularly popular, with hazelnut, milk, banana and mint versions all waiting to be tasted.

There’s also another bacon-flavoured packet of crisps.

Apparently, Europe didn’t listen when I said three boxes in a row was enough! 😂🥓

📖 The Slovakia Travel Booklet

If you’ve joined me for the previous SnackVerse editions, you’ll already know that the booklet is part snack guide, part miniature travel magazine and another enjoyable part of the whole experience.

Alongside descriptions of all 20 products and useful allergen information, the Slovakia booklet explores the country’s food, history, culture, festivals and places to visit.

Most interesting fact: Bratislava is the only capital city in the world that borders two countries—Austria and Hungary.

Dish I’d most like to try: Zemiakové placky—crispy Slovakian potato pancakes made with garlic, onion and marjoram. They sound right up my street!

Featured recipes: Slovak Sauerkraut Soup and Medovníky spiced honey cookies. The soup contains mushrooms, so that one is out—but I’d happily have a go at the decorated honey biscuits.

Destination added to my travel list: Bojnice Castle. A fairy-tale castle that has also been used as a filming location? Yes, please!

Favourite booklet page: The travel recommendations—between the medieval castles, ice caves, mountain scenery and even a September comic convention, Slovakia looks rather lovely.

With this being my fourth box, exploring the booklet has become part of the monthly SnackVerse tradition. The snacks might remain the main attraction, but the facts, recipes and travel ideas help each box feel like a little visit to somewhere new.

🍿 The Great Portuguese Taste Test

There are 20 Slovakian products sitting in front of me, ranging from large bags of crisps and crunchy corn snacks to chocolates, traditional sweets, an impressive number of wafers and one bottle of sparkling grape drink.

Unlike Portugal’s heavily sweet selection, Slovakia has given us a slightly more balanced box, with six savoury snacks competing alongside thirteen sweet treats and one drink. The brands might not be familiar to me yet, but several—including Sedita, Figaro, Deva and SlovChips—have apparently been part of Slovakian snack cupboards for generations.

I’ve already spotted another bacon-flavoured packet of crisps, proving that Europe has completely ignored my request for something different. There’s also a banana-and-cocoa wafer ready to be handed directly to the boys, plus a strawberry, menthol and eucalyptus caramel that’s giving me a definite what exactly have I agreed to put in my mouth? feeling.

Some products look comforting and familiar. Others could either become brilliant surprises or leave me deeply suspicious of Slovakian sweet choices.

Only one way to find out…

🥨 Savoury Snacks

Slovakia has arrived at the snack table with six savoury offerings, giving us everything from chicken-flavoured potato sticks and peanut-coated corn puffs to roasted barbecue corn and kebab-flavoured crackers.

The Namex Super Rings combine cheese and onion—a flavour with a lot to live up to after Hungary’s Chio Cheese and Onion Crisps became a five-rocket favourite. Meanwhile, the SlovChips Gazdovské crisps are bringing bacon seasoning back for the fourth box in a row. At this point, a European SnackVerse box without bacon-flavoured crisps might be more surprising!

There’s a good mixture of textures too: thin potato sticks, airy corn rings, melt-in-the-mouth puffs, ridged crackers, traditional crisps and whole roasted corn kernels.

So, will Slovakia produce a new savoury champion—or will Hungary’s cheese-and-onion crisps and Portugal’s Lay’s Camponesas remain the snacks to beat?

Time to start crunching.

💭 My Honest Review

These were much thinner than I expected!

When I read “potato sticks,” I pictured something thicker—more like a proper crisp stick. Instead, these really were matchstick-thin, with a light and delicate crunch.

Once I adjusted my expectations, though, I really liked them. The roasted-chicken flavour came through clearly and gave the little sticks plenty of savoury seasoning without becoming too strong.

Their tiny size also made them incredibly easy to keep picking at. You don’t really eat one Prima Stix at a time; you grab a little bundle and immediately go back for another.

Unexpectedly thin—but very tasty!

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀🚀🚀 Lunar Delight

Super-thin, matchstick-shaped potato snacks with a clear and enjoyable roasted-chicken flavour.

They weren’t the thick crisp sticks I’d imagined, but the light crunch and savoury seasoning won me over. I’d happily eat these again!

📖 Official Description

These are crispy, matchstick-cut potato sticks baked to an ultra-crunchy finish and packed with bold seasoning. In your box, you’ll discover either the savoury, herbal warmth of slow-roasted chicken flavour or a zesty Mediterranean twist of sun-ripened tomatoes and rich black olives, making it an exciting, flavour-packed surprise for any snack lover. Their slim, golden shape makes them perfect for sharing, dipping, or enjoying straight from the pack.

💭 My Honest Review

As soon as I opened the packet, I could clearly smell the peanuts, so I expected these corn puffs to have a really noticeable nutty flavour.

Unfortunately, the taste didn’t quite live up to the aroma.

The puffs were light with a soft, airy crunch, but the actual peanut flavour seemed quite mild. To me, they tasted a little bland and needed more seasoning to make them properly moreish.

They weren’t unpleasant, but if I fancied a peanut snack, I’d much rather have actual peanuts with a stronger flavour and more satisfying crunch.

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀 Mild Mission

Light corn puffs with a noticeable peanut smell—but much less peanut flavour than expected.

They were perfectly edible, just too mild and bland to make me want another packet.

📖 Official Description

A quintessential Slovak savoury snack, these light and airy corn puffs are generously coated with roasted crushed peanuts and a touch of salt. Their delicate, melt-in-the-mouth texture pairs perfectly with the rich, nutty flavour, creating an irresistibly moreish combination of crunch and savoury goodness. A nostalgic favourite with a simple, distinctive recipe, they’re ideal for casual nibbling or enjoying alongside a cold drink.

💭 My Honest Review

The smoky barbecue seasoning came through clearly and gave the roasted corn plenty of savoury flavour.

The problem for me was the texture. These are actual whole roasted corn kernels, so they were quite hard to bite into—not the kind of easy crunch I’d usually expect from crisps or corn puffs.

I can absolutely understand these being served as pub snacks alongside a cold drink. They’re salty, smoky and something you could slowly nibble your way through rather than demolishing the packet in five minutes.

However, if I were choosing a crunchy pub snack for myself, I’d reach for a bowl of peanuts instead.

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀 Mild Mission

Whole roasted corn kernels with a noticeable smoky barbecue flavour—but a much harder crunch than I personally enjoy.

I can see why they work as pub snacks, but peanuts would win for me every time.

📖 Official Description

From Dr. Ensa, a well-known Slovak producer of nuts, seeds and savoury snacks, these whole golden corn kernels are roasted until irresistibly crunchy and seasoned with a rich barbecue flavour. Their ultra-crisp texture gives way to a deeply savoury, smoky taste, making every handful wonderfully moreish. Perfect for casual nibbling, social gatherings or enjoying alongside a cold drink, they’re a simple yet satisfying savoury treat.

💭 My Honest Review

Once again…they tasted like bacon crisps.

There was nothing particularly wrong with them. The crisps had a good crunch, and the seasoning delivered exactly the smoky, salty bacon flavour promised on the packet.

The problem is that this is now the fourth consecutive European SnackVerse box to include some version of bacon or ham-flavoured crisps. At this point, I feel like I’ve already written the same review several times!

They were perfectly edible, but there was nothing different or memorable enough to make them stand out from all the others.

I’m officially getting bored of bacon crisps. Europe, please find another flavour!

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀 Mild Mission

Crunchy potato crisps with yet another familiar smoky bacon flavour.

They were fine, but after four consecutive boxes featuring bacon or ham crisps, any excitement has well and truly disappeared.

📖 Official Description

A true taste of Slovak tradition, these rustic potato crisps are made from carefully selected potatoes, sliced and fried to a perfectly golden crunch. Seasoned with a rich, savoury bacon flavour, they offer an irresistibly satisfying taste with every bite. Produced in Smižany, where potato crisp making has a tradition stretching back to the 1980s, they celebrate authentic Slovak quality and the rustic flavours of the countryside.

💭 My Honest Review

I really enjoyed these!

The corn rings were light and crunchy, with plenty of cheese-and-onion seasoning clinging to every little curve. The onion added a lovely savoury flavour, while the cheese made them properly moreish without becoming too heavy.

They were also dangerously easy to eat. I’d reach into the packet for a couple, then a couple more…and I may have accidentally finished the entire bag in one sitting.

No regrets.

Slovakia clearly understands how to make a good cheese-and-onion snack—and these might even give Hungary’s five-rocket Chio Cheese and Onion Crisps some serious competition!

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀 Cosmic Craving

Light, crunchy corn rings covered in a deliciously moreish cheese-and-onion seasoning.

I enjoyed them so much that the entire packet mysteriously disappeared in one sitting. I’d absolutely buy these again!

📖 Official Description

A popular Slovak savoury snack, these airy extruded corn rings are packed with a bold seasoning that combines sweet onion with rich, savoury cheese. Wonderfully light with an irresistible crunch, their distinctive ring shape and moreish flavour make them a playful snack that’s perfect for sharing.

💭 My Honest Review

These didn’t really taste like kebab to me.

The seasoning had a general savoury, meaty flavour, but I couldn’t pick out anything that specifically reminded me of a proper kebab. The garlic, herbs and spices mentioned in the booklet didn’t come through strongly enough to make the flavour distinctive.

What I did like was the texture. These were slightly thicker and puffier than an ordinary potato crisp, while the ridged shape gave them a satisfying crunch.

The texture made them enjoyable enough to keep eating, even if the promised kebab flavour never really arrived.

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour

A puffy, ridged crisp with a pleasant but fairly generic meaty seasoning.

They didn’t taste much like kebab to me, but I enjoyed the thicker, lighter texture.

📖 Official Description

These crunchy, ridged crisps are specially shaped to capture maximum seasoning in every fold. Packed with the rich, savoury flavours of spiced street-food kebab, they bring together roasted meat seasonings, fragrant garlic, and Mediterranean herbs with a deeply satisfying crunch. Produced by SlovChips, they are an exciting, modern favourite perfect for pub gatherings and casual snacking.

🏆 Savoury Snack Champion

Winner: Namex Super Ring Onion & Cheese

Slovakia gave us six savoury snacks, but there was one packet I apparently had absolutely no self-control around.

The Namex Super Rings were wonderfully light and crunchy, with plenty of cheese-and-onion seasoning caught in every little curve. The onion was savoury, the cheese was moreish, and the entire packet somehow disappeared in one sitting.

The SlovChips Prima Stix put up a respectable fight with their roasted-chicken flavour and delicate matchstick crunch. However, nothing else had me repeatedly reaching into the bag until there was nothing left.

Hungary’s Chio Cheese and Onion Crisps may finally have found some serious SnackVerse competition!

Namex Super Ring Onion & Cheese is officially Slovakia’s Savoury Snack Champion! 🏆🧀

🍫 Sweet Treats

Slovakia’s sweet side is definitely doing most of the heavy lifting, with thirteen treats competing for the crown.

Wafers appear to be particularly popular here. We’ve got hazelnut, milk-cream, mint and cocoa-and-banana versions, alongside sandwich biscuits filled with coffee cream and two different hazelnut-nougat chocolate bars.

There are also some much more unusual treats waiting for their moment. The Bombi Perník combines honey gingerbread, plum filling and chocolate, while Alaska Coconut Cream hides a smooth coconut filling inside crisp corn tubes. Figaro Doxy Roksy brings us traditional patterned boiled sweets, and Figaro Snehulky combines strawberry caramel with menthol and eucalyptus—which sounds more like something from the medicine cupboard than the sweet jar!

The raspberry and orange jelly-filled chocolate bars may also prove challenging because jelly centres and dark chocolate aren’t normally my favourite things. Then, of course, there’s the banana wafer, which has already secured its place in the boys’ tasting pile.

With 13 very different contenders, Slovakia has plenty of opportunities to challenge Portugal’s adorable Regina Chocolate Umbrella for the sweet crown.

💭 My Honest Review

This was another jelly-filled chocolate bar—and once again, it was okay but not really for me.

The centre had a strong raspberry flavour and a soft, chewy jelly texture, surrounded by a layer of dark chocolate. Neither part tasted bad, but jelly centres aren’t something I particularly enjoy, and dark chocolate wouldn’t usually be my first choice either.

Combining the two was never going to create a new favourite!

I could appreciate the fruity raspberry flavour, but the texture was the part I struggled with most. Someone who enjoys dark chocolate and fruit jellies would probably rate this much more highly than I did.

Perfectly fine—just made for somebody else.

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀 Mild Mission

A raspberry-flavoured jelly centre covered in rich dark chocolate.

The flavour was okay, but the soft jelly texture and dark-chocolate coating simply weren’t for me.

📖 Official Description

A distinctive treat, this slender bar features a soft, chewy pectin jelly centre bursting with sweet raspberry flavour, all enrobed in a delicate layer of rich dark chocolate. The tender centre pairs beautifully with the smooth cocoa coating, bringing together bright berry notes and deeper cocoa richness. An unusual combination with a satisfyingly soft bite that makes Yami instantly memorable.

💭 My Honest Review

I’m not usually a massive fan of coconut, but the filling was actually the best part of this one.

It was smooth and sweet, with just a gentle hint of coconut rather than an overpowering tropical flavour. That suited me perfectly and made the filling much nicer than I expected.

My issue was the outer corn shell. It tasted and felt like I was eating a crisp, which didn’t quite work with the sweet coconut cream hiding inside. My brain seemed to expect something savoury from the crunchy shell, only to find a sweet filling instead—and the combination completely threw me off.

The coconut wasn’t the problem for once. It was the strangely crisp-like shell surrounding it!

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀 Mild Mission

A pleasantly sweet coconut filling with a gentle flavour that surprised me—but the crunchy corn shell felt too much like eating a crisp.

Neither part was bad on its own, but together they didn’t quite work for me.

📖 Official Description

A light and delicious treat, these gluten-free corn tubes combine a delicate, crispy shell with a smooth coconut-flavoured cream filling. Each bite delivers a satisfying crunch followed by mellow tropical sweetness and a creamy finish. Light, crisp and wonderfully moreish, they make an ideal lunchbox treat, afternoon-tea companion or easy on-the-go indulgence.

💭 My Honest Review

I really enjoyed this one.

The hazelnut cream had a lovely nutty flavour that came through clearly without becoming too strong or overly sweet. It worked beautifully with the crisp wafer layers, which gave the bar a light and satisfying crunch.

I also liked that the cocoa glaze only covered the edges rather than the entire wafer. It added a little chocolate without overpowering the hazelnut filling or making the whole thing feel too heavy.

The combination was simple, but everything was nicely balanced—and those layers were really good too!

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀🚀🚀 Lunar Delight

A light, layered wafer filled with delicious hazelnut cream and finished with just enough cocoa glaze around the edges.

Crispy, nutty and really enjoyable. I’d happily have another one!

📖 Official Description

A beloved Slovak classic since 1945, Tatranky is a five-layer wafer bar filled with smooth hazelnut cream and finished with a delicate milk-cocoa glaze along the edges. This iconic treat strikes the perfect balance between nutty richness and crisp wafer texture. Passed down through generations, Tatranky remains a favourite in Slovak households, enjoyed daily with coffee or savoured as a comforting afternoon pick-me-up.

💭 My Honest Review

The first thing I noticed was the smell. It had a slightly tangy, yoghurt-like aroma, which wasn’t what I expected from a milk-cream wafer.

The wafer itself tasted alright, with light, crisp layers, a creamy filling and a cocoa coating around the outside.

I did initially get a lingering menthol taste—but that was entirely my own fault for eating this immediately after the Figaro Snehulky Mentol Jahoda sweet. Apparently, that menthol was determined to follow me into the next review!

Once I realised the strange mixed flavour wasn’t coming from the Mila itself, this was a perfectly pleasant wafer. It wasn’t especially memorable, but there was nothing wrong with it either.

Note to self: introduce a palate cleanser before continuing future SnackVerse tastings!

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour

A crisp, cocoa-coated wafer with a smooth milk-cream filling and a slightly yoghurt-like aroma.

Perfectly enjoyable once I stopped blaming it for the menthol sweet I’d eaten immediately beforehand!

📖 Official Description

An enduring symbol of Portuguese childhood, Regina’s chocolate umbrellas have delighted generations. Crafted by one of Portugal’s most iconic chocolate brands, these nostalgic treats feature smooth, creamy milk chocolate moulded into their distinctive umbrella shape. Wrapped in bright, colourful foil, they’re instantly recognisable and remain a beloved part of Portuguese chocolate culture.

💭 My Honest Review

I expected this to be a hard sweet that I could slowly suck on.

It was not.

Instead, the texture was soft and incredibly powdery—and we already know how I feel about powdery sweets! I hated the way it felt in my mouth before I could even properly concentrate on the strawberry flavour.

Then the menthol arrived.

That cooling menthol-and-eucalyptus hit was seriously strong. I might not want another one as a sweet treat, but I can imagine it clearing your nose beautifully when you’ve got a cold!

Between the powdery texture and the medicinal menthol flavour, this felt much more at home in the medicine cabinet than the sweet cupboard.

🚀 My Verdict

🚀 Grounded Grub

A powdery strawberry sweet with an incredibly strong menthol-and-eucalyptus hit.

The texture immediately put me off, although I’ll give it one thing—it would probably clear a blocked nose in seconds!

📖 Official Description

A nostalgic Slovak favourite, these distinctive soft caramels combine sweet, fruity strawberry with the coolness of menthol and a subtle touch of eucalyptus. Smooth and pleasantly chewy, each piece delivers an unusual contrast of fruity sweetness and refreshing zing. With their unmistakable retro appeal and memorable flavour combination, Snehulky remain a much-loved part of Slovakia’s confectionery tradition.

💭 My Honest Review

This was essentially a soft ginger cake with a layer of plum filling and chocolate coating around the outside.

The gingerbread had a warm, spiced flavour, while the plum filling added a fruity sweetness through the middle. It wasn’t a combination I’d normally think to put together, but it worked reasonably well.

The overall flavour was a little strong for me, though. Between the ginger spices, tangy plum and chocolate coating, there was quite a lot happening in one small cake.

It wasn’t bad, and I did enjoy trying something that felt more traditionally Slovakian—but it probably isn’t a treat I’d actively search for again.

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour

A soft, chocolate-coated ginger cake with a fruity plum filling.

The combination was enjoyable and something different, although the spiced ginger-and-plum flavour was slightly stronger than I’d usually choose.

📖 Official Description

A beloved Slovak gingerbread classic featuring soft, spiced honey-gingerbread cake layered with a sweet, tangy plum fruit filling and coated in a smooth chocolate glaze. Based on the age-old perník recipe, this is a nostalgic, bakery-style sweet treat that brings the warm, comforting flavours of traditional festive baking to everyday snacking.

💭 My Honest Review

I enjoyed this one!

From the outside, it looked like a fairly ordinary chocolate-covered nougat bar—but once I bit into it, all those little puffed-rice pieces were clearly visible inside.

The nougat filling was soft, while the little Rice Krispie-style pieces added a lovely light crunch. They made the texture much more interesting and turned every bite into a nice little treat.

It was a simple combination, but everything worked really well together. The crispy pieces were definitely what made this stand out from an ordinary chocolate and nougat bar for me.

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀🚀🚀 Lunar Delight

A chocolate-covered nougat bar filled with little puffed-rice pieces that added a really enjoyable crunch.

Familiar, simple and very tasty—the Rice Krispie-style bits were the best part!

📖 Official Description

A nostalgic confection from one of Slovakia’s most historic chocolatiers, Deva, founded in Trebišov in 1951. This chocolate bar features a smooth nougat filling blended with crisp puffed rice and roasted hazelnuts, and generously coated in rich milk chocolate. With a satisfying combination of creamy sweetness and airy crunch, it remains a beloved retro sweet treat across Slovakia.

💭 My Honest Review

Now this was the chocolate treat I needed!

The milk-chocolate shell and soft hazelnut-nougat centre practically melted in my mouth. It was smooth, creamy and rich without needing any unusual flavours or complicated fillings.

I’d been craving chocolate, and this completely hit the spot. One small bar was nowhere near enough—I need many more of these!

After several Slovakian sweets that were simply okay or definitely not for me, Figaro Nugát reminded me exactly what a really satisfying chocolate bar should taste like.

Simple. Creamy. Melt-in-the-mouth.

Please send a box full next time.

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀 Cosmic Craving

Smooth milk chocolate with a creamy hazelnut-nougat centre that melted beautifully in my mouth.

It completely satisfied my chocolate craving—and now I need to find many more!

📖 Official Description

A timeless confectionery classic across Slovakia, this iconic chocolate bar pairs a smooth milk chocolate shell with a rich, velvety hazelnut nougat cream filling. Delivering a wonderfully creamy, melt-in-the-mouth texture and deep roasted nutty notes, it has been a comforting favourite for chocolate lovers for generations.

💭 The Coffee Lovers’ Honest Review

As is very well known by now, I’m not a coffee girl. I’m tea all the way!

That made these coffee-cream sandwich biscuits perfect for two of the coffee lovers in my life: Mum and my stepdad.

I did brave the smell test before handing them over, and the coffee hit was immediate. There was absolutely no mistaking what flavour was hiding inside those biscuits! One sniff was enough to confirm that they weren’t going to tempt me away from my English Breakfast tea.

Mum and my stepdad enjoyed them with their own coffees, though, which feels like exactly how these biscuits were supposed to be eaten. I might not have been their intended audience, but they found the right home!

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour

A crisp sandwich biscuit with a strong, unmistakable coffee aroma and creamy coffee-flavoured filling.

They weren’t going to convert this devoted tea drinker, but Mum and my stepdad happily enjoyed them alongside their coffees.

📖 Official Description

A beloved teatime classic from Sedita, these sandwich biscuits feature two crisp, butter biscuits filled with a rich, aromatic coffee cream. Delivering a satisfying crunch followed by a smooth, roast-coffee sweetness, they are an elegant, nostalgic treat crafted to be enjoyed alongside a warm cup of coffee or tea.

💭 My Honest Review

Like eggs, banana is another thing I avoid in every possible form.

The smell, the texture, the taste…just no.

Unsurprisingly, this cocoa-and-banana wafer went directly to the boys. I never received an actual review from either of them, but once again, the speed at which it disappeared told me everything I needed to know.

Apparently, stopping to give Mum proper tasting notes wasn’t nearly as important as making sure the other one didn’t get the last piece!

I can’t personally comment on the flavour—and have absolutely no plans to change that—but the boys clearly enjoyed it.

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀🚀🚀 Lunar Delight

No comments, no detailed tasting notes and no wafer left behind.

Banana will never be welcome on my side of the snack table, but the speed at which the boys finished this suggests it was a definite success with them!

📖 Official Description

A cherished Slovak classic from the renowned Sedita brand, this crisp wafer bar combines the rich taste of cocoa with the sweet, tropical flavour of banana. Light, delicate wafer layers are generously filled with a smooth cocoa and banana cream, delivering a delicious balance of deep cocoa notes and fruity sweetness in every bite. A nostalgic favourite with a distinctive flavour combination, it’s the perfect treat to enjoy alongside an afternoon coffee.

💭 My Honest Review

This was essentially a wafer version of an After Eight—and the mint hit hard!

The wafer itself had the familiar light crunch I’ve come to expect from Sedita, with a cocoa coating around the outside. Unfortunately, all I could concentrate on was that intense minty filling.

For me, mint belongs in toothpaste or actual mints designed to freshen your breath. It does not belong inside chocolate, wafers or any other sweet treat.

If you enjoy mint chocolate, this probably delivers exactly what you want. I, however, felt like I’d somehow mixed snack time with brushing my teeth.

Definitely not for me!

🚀 My Verdict

🚀 Grounded Grub

Like an After Eight transformed into a crunchy wafer, complete with a very strong minty hit.

It lived up to its description—but mint belongs in toothpaste or breath-freshening mints, not inside my sweet treats!

📖 Official Description

A refreshing Slovak confectionery favourite from Sedita, this crisp wafer combines delicate layers with a smooth, cool mint cream filling, all wrapped in a rich cocoa coating. Each bite brings a satisfying crunch followed by a fresh minty lift, beautifully balanced by the deeper cocoa notes. Distinctive and full of nostalgic charm, Mäta is a refreshing twist on the classic wafer and a delicious companion to a cup of coffee.

💭 My Honest Review

This was basically the jelly filling from a Jaffa Cake covered in dark chocolate—but without the biscuit or sponge underneath.

The orange flavour was clear, and the chocolate-and-orange combination was familiar enough. However, removing the sponge left me with far too much soft jelly texture in each bite.

That’s usually my least favourite part of a Jaffa Cake anyway, so turning it into the main event was never going to win me over!

It was okay, and I can imagine someone who loves orange jelly chocolates really enjoying it. Personally, though, it just wasn’t my thing.

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀 Mild Mission

Like eating the orange jelly centre from a Jaffa Cake without the sponge to balance it.

The flavour was perfectly fine, but the jelly-heavy texture made this one a miss for me.

📖 Official Description

A signature treat from Slovakia’s historic confectioner, Deva, this chocolate bar features a rich dark chocolate shell filled with a soft orange jelly made with 75% real candied orange peel. Bearing the iconic girl in traditional Slovak folk dress on the wrapper, it delivers an irresistible balance of deep, bittersweet cocoa and bright citrus sweetness.

💭 My Honest Review

This was a colourful mixture of traditional hard-boiled sweets, with little fruit patterns running all the way through their centres.

I picked out a lemon one, which had a pleasant citrus flavour and was actually quite nice. It was sweet with enough lemon to make the flavour recognisable, but thankfully, it didn’t become too sharp or overpowering.

The boys ended up with the banana ones—which feels like the correct division of labour in this house! Neither offered much in the way of a detailed review, but they seemed to enjoy them.

They weren’t especially unusual once we started eating them, but the different fruit designs made them much more fun than an ordinary boiled sweet.

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour

Colourful, fruit-patterned boiled sweets with a mixture of tropical flavours.

My lemon sweet was pleasantly citrusy without becoming overpowering, while the boys appeared perfectly happy with their banana ones. Simple, enjoyable and rather cute to look at!

📖 Official Description

A colourful and nostalgic Slovak confectionery classic, these traditional hard-boiled candies are famous for their intricate, hand-crafted fruit patterns on the centre of each candy. Infused with an assortment of vibrant, tropical fruit flavours, each sweet delivers a long-lasting burst of juicy, tangy-sweet citrus and exotic fruit notes. Fun, eye-catching, and full of vintage charm, they are an iconic retro treat that has been a childhood favourite for generations of Slovaks.

🏆 Sweet Treat Champion

Winner: Figaro Nugát

Slovakia’s sweet selection was something of a mixed journey, but Figaro Nugát delivered exactly what I needed.

The smooth milk-chocolate shell and velvety hazelnut-nougat centre melted beautifully in my mouth. It wasn’t trying to surprise me with an unusual texture or experimental flavour combination—it was simply a really satisfying chocolate bar.

I’d been craving chocolate, and this completely hit the spot. My only complaint was that there wasn’t more of it!

Deva Chrumkavý Nugát came close with its creamy nougat and crispy rice pieces, while Sedita Tatranky Hazelnut was another strong nutty contender. Neither quite matched the pure melt-in-the-mouth joy of Figaro Nugát.

Figaro Nugát is officially Slovakia’s Sweet Treat Champion! 🏆🍫

🥤 The Slovakian Drink

Slovakia has only sent one drink this month, so there won’t be a fierce battle for the Drink Champion title.

However, Vinea is apparently one of Slovakia’s most iconic soft drinks. Created in 1973 in the wine-growing town of Pezinok, it’s a lightly sparkling, non-alcoholic drink made with white grape juice and elderflower.

That already makes it sound more distinctive than a standard can of fizzy pop. The real question is whether its mixture of grape sweetness and floral elderflower will be refreshing—or whether it’ll taste a little too much like drinking perfume!

With Hungary currently holding the overall drinks crown, Vinea has plenty to prove despite being Slovakia’s only entry.

💭 My Honest Review

This tasted exactly like white grape Shloer to me.

The booklet describes a combination of white grape juice and elderflower, but I didn’t pick up anything particularly unusual or distinctive. It simply had that familiar sweet, fizzy white-grape flavour.

There was nothing wrong with it, and I finished it without any complaints—but it also didn’t give me much to get excited about.

It was okay, I guess!

🚀 My Verdict

🚀🚀 Mild Mission

A perfectly drinkable sparkling grape drink that reminded me almost entirely of white grape Shloer.

It was pleasant enough, but too familiar and ordinary to leave much of an impression or make me want to search for another can.

📖 Official Description

One of Slovakia’s most iconic soft drinks, Vinea was created in 1973 by Ján Farkaš and his team in the wine-growing town of Pezinok. This lightly sparkling, non-alcoholic grape drink combines real white grape juice with fragrant elderflower, creating a distinctive balance of fruity sweetness, subtle floral notes and crisp, refreshing acidity. Over the decades, Vinea has become a much-loved part of Slovak drinking culture.

🏆 The Slovakian Drink Verdict

Slovakia’s only drink: Vinea

Vinea wins Slovakia’s Drink Champion title by being the only drink in the box!

Unfortunately, it wasn’t a particularly dramatic victory.

The lightly sparkling white-grape drink tasted almost exactly like white grape Shloer to me. It was perfectly pleasant and easy enough to drink, but I didn’t notice anything distinctive enough to make it memorable.

The elderflower mentioned in the booklet didn’t make much of an impression, and it certainly wasn’t exciting enough to threaten Hungary’s drinks crown.

Vinea is technically Slovakia’s Drink Champion—but only because it competed in a race of one! 🍇🥤

🏆 The Slovakia Snack Awards

After tasting 20 Slovakian products, discovering more wafers than I thought one box could reasonably contain and taking an entire month to reach the bottom, it’s time to hand out the Slovakia Snack Awards!

❤️ Kimberley’s Favourite

Figaro Nugát

This was the chocolate fix I’d been waiting for.

The smooth milk chocolate and velvety hazelnut-nougat centre melted in my mouth, completely satisfied my craving and immediately made me wish I had several more bars.

Sometimes simple chocolate done really well is all I need.

👦 The Boys’ Favourite

Sedita Kakaové Rezy Banánové

As someone who avoids everything about bananas—the smell, taste and texture—this cocoa-and-banana wafer went directly to the boys.

Neither of them offered a useful verbal review, but the speed at which it disappeared suggested they thoroughly enjoyed it.

Once again, the boys have decided that eating all the evidence counts as providing tasting notes.

🤯 Biggest Surprise

Deva Chrumkavý Nugát

From the outside, this looked like a fairly ordinary chocolate-and-nougat bar.

Inside, however, were lots of little puffed-rice pieces that added a lovely light crunch. Those Rice Krispie-style pieces made the texture much more interesting and turned a familiar combination into a really enjoyable treat.

🛒 Most Desperate to Buy Again

Joint Winners: Figaro Nugát and Namex Super Ring Onion & Cheese

I need more Figaro Nugát bars for future chocolate emergencies—and another bag of Namex Super Rings to test whether I’m capable of not eating the entire thing in one sitting.

For scientific purposes, obviously.

🚫 Not for Me

Figaro Snehulky Mentol Jahoda

I expected a hard-boiled sweet. Instead, I got a powdery texture—something we already know I hate—followed by an incredibly strong hit of menthol and eucalyptus.

It might be useful during a particularly nasty cold, but I don’t want my sweets to feel like they’ve escaped from the medicine cabinet.

Sedita Mäta receives an honourable mention here because mint still belongs in toothpaste or proper breath-freshening mints—not chocolate wafers!

🇸🇰 Most Slovakian-Feeling Discovery

Bombi Perník Plum

This soft honey-gingerbread cake, filled with tangy plum and covered in chocolate, felt like one of the most traditional discoveries in the box.

The flavour was slightly stronger than I’d usually choose, but it gave me something different from the standard chocolates, crisps and wafers. It felt connected to Slovakia’s traditional perník baking rather than simply being another familiar snack.

🥓 Haven’t We Met Before?

SlovChips Gazdovské Zemiakové Lupienky

Four European destinations—and four boxes containing some version of bacon or ham-flavoured crisps.

They were perfectly edible, but I’m officially bored of writing the same review.

Europe, we understand. You like bacon seasoning. Please send something else now!

👑 Overall Slovakia Box Champion

Figaro Nugát

The Namex Super Rings made this a very close contest, especially after the entire packet disappeared in one sitting.

However, Figaro Nugát takes Slovakia’s overall crown. Its smooth milk chocolate and creamy hazelnut-nougat centre melted beautifully, hit the exact chocolate craving I had and left me immediately wanting more.

When one small bar makes you wish the entire box had contained several more, it deserves to become the champion.

Figaro Nugát is officially the Overall Slovakia Box Champion! 👑🇸🇰

⚔️ Slovakia vs Portugal vs Spain vs Hungary

Four European countries have now entered the SnackVerse arena—but Slovakia has struggled to threaten the reigning champions.

Best Savoury Selection: Hungary 🇭🇺

Slovakia produced an excellent savoury winner with the five-rocket Namex Super Rings, while the chicken-flavoured SlovChips Prima Stix earned a very respectable four.

Unfortunately, the rest of the category couldn’t maintain that standard. The kebab crackers tasted more like generic meaty crisps, the roasted corn was too hard, the peanut puffs were bland, and yet another packet of bacon crisps failed to excite me.

Hungary’s Chio Cheese and Onion Crisps remain one of the best savoury discoveries from the entire journey, supported by a stronger overall selection.

Hungary keeps the savoury crown.

Best Sweet Selection: Portugal 🇵🇹

Slovakia’s Figaro Nugát was a genuine five-rocket favourite, with Deva Chrumkavý Nugát and Sedita Tatranky Hazelnut providing strong competition.

However, there were also far too many products that were simply okay or actively not for me. Jelly centres, powdery menthol sweets, mint wafers and several fairly ordinary products made the sweet selection feel uneven.

Portugal delivered the smoother Regina Chocolate Umbrella, several four-rocket favourites and only one complete miss.

Portugal keeps the sweet selection crown.

Best Drinks: Hungary 🇭🇺

Slovakia only provided one drink, leaving Vinea to compete entirely by itself.

It tasted much like white grape Shloer and earned two rockets. It was pleasant enough, but not unusual or exciting enough to compete with Hungary’s elderflower Márka Bodza and Traubisoda.

Hungary remains the drinks champion.

Best Traditional Discovery: Portugal 🇵🇹

Slovakia’s Bombi Perník Plum felt genuinely connected to the country’s traditional gingerbread baking, but its strong ginger-and-plum flavour wasn’t something I’d rush to buy again.

Portugal’s Avó Elvira Beijinhos das Caldas were more distinctive, more enjoyable and something I’d happily have again—preferably with chocolate sauce for dipping.

Portugal keeps the traditional discovery crown.

Best-Packed Box: Portugal 🇵🇹

Slovakia contained a generous 20 products, including several full-sized bags and plenty of different chocolates, wafers and sweets.

Portugal still felt like the most impressive box to open. It weighed nearly 2kg, contained 21 products and was packed completely to the top.

Portugal remains the best-packed box.

Most Consistent Box: Portugal 🇵🇹

Slovakia reached the same impressive height as Portugal with two five-rocket products.

The difference was everything underneath them.

Slovakia finished with seven Mild Missions and two Grounded Grubs, while Portugal produced only one one-rocket disappointment. Portugal’s overall selection felt much more reliable and enjoyable from beginning to end.

Portugal remains the most consistent box.

Overall Winning Box: Portugal 🇵🇹

Slovakia had two genuine highlights.

The Namex Super Rings were dangerously moreish, while Figaro Nugát completely satisfied my chocolate craving. There were also enjoyable discoveries among the hazelnut wafers, chicken potato sticks and crispy-rice nougat.

As a complete box, though, Slovakia simply wasn’t exciting enough.

Too many products landed in the “fine, but nothing special” category. Several flavours didn’t suit me, the single drink felt familiar, and the repeated wafers began to blend together. Even the bacon crisps returned for their fourth consecutive appearance.

Portugal remains fuller, more varied and much more consistent. Spain also delivered stronger memorable moments, while Hungary still holds the savoury and drinks crowns.

Portugal remains the overall SnackVerse champion. 👑🇵🇹

The current SnackVerse standings are:

  1. Portugal 🇵🇹
  2. Spain 🇪🇸
  3. Hungary 🇭🇺
  4. Slovakia 🇸🇰

💭 Was the Slovakia Premium Box Worth It?

The Slovakia Premium Box contained 20 products for £24.99, working out at approximately £1.25 per product.

Inside were six savoury snacks, thirteen sweet treats and one drink. There were several large sharing bags, plenty of full-sized chocolate bars and a broad mixture of crisps, corn snacks, wafers, sweets and traditional treats.

On paper, that still represents good value.

The box introduced me to long-established Slovakian brands including Sedita, Figaro, Deva and SlovChips. Several products also felt genuinely connected to Slovakian snack culture rather than being the same international brands we can easily find in the UK.

There were two outstanding discoveries. The Namex Super Rings disappeared in one sitting, while the Figaro Nugát became an immediate chocolate favourite. Deva Chrumkavý Nugát, SlovChips Prima Stix and Sedita Tatranky Hazelnut were also very enjoyable.

Unfortunately, the overall tasting experience didn’t match the quantity.

Seven products earned only two rockets, while two more landed at the very bottom. There were too many jelly centres, wafers and flavours that simply weren’t for me. The one included drink tasted extremely familiar, and another packet of bacon-flavoured crisps added to the feeling that I’d tasted some of this before.

So, was the Slovakia Premium Box worth £24.99?

Technically, yes—but it was the least satisfying box so far.

The amount of food and product sizes justified the price, and those two five-rocket discoveries proved there were still some gems inside. However, value isn’t only about how many products arrive. It’s also about how excited I feel to keep opening and tasting them.

This time, that excitement just wasn’t there.

💭 Final Thoughts

Slovakia wasn’t a disaster, but it was the first SnackVerse box that just didn’t spark any real excitement for me. Usually, we tear through a new box in a week or two—snacking, sharing, and arguing over favourites—but this one lingered on the kitchen counter for a whole month. Not because there was loads more to try, but because I just didn’t feel that pull to go back for more. Too many snacks tasted a bit samey, a few flavour combos were definitely not my thing, and most of the box landed squarely in the perfectly fine but instantly forgettable zone.

But it wasn’t all doom and gloom! There were a few absolute gems hiding in there. The Namex Super Rings? I’m not saying I ate the whole bag in one go, but… okay, I definitely did. No regrets. The Figaro Nugát was pure chocolatey joy—so smooth and melty, with that dreamy hazelnut-nougat centre. I actually had to hide the last piece from myself. The Deva Chrumkavý Nugát surprised me with its crispy rice bits (always a win), and both the chicken-flavoured SlovChips Prima Stix and the layered Sedita Tatranky Hazelnut were snacks I’d happily welcome back any day.

On the other hand, there were a couple of snacks that made me question my life choices. The Figaro Snehulky Mentol Jahoda was so minty and powdery, I’m convinced it was secretly cold medicine in disguise. And the Sedita Mäta? Let’s just say mint is still firmly on my ‘only in toothpaste’ list. Slovakia also gave us Europe’s fourth bacon-or-ham-flavoured crisp in a row. I think we can officially call that flavour explored! So yes, there were a couple of five-rocket favourites, but overall, this box was more about the occasional highlight than the steady stream of excitement we had with Portugal, Spain, or Hungary.

After munching my way through Hungary, Spain, Portugal, and now Slovakia, I’m crossing my fingers that our next SnackVerse adventure finally takes us out of Europe. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved our little European snack tour, but four countries in a row is plenty. My taste buds are itching for something totally new! Asia, Africa, North America, South America… SnackVerse, I’m begging you—send us somewhere wildly different next time.

Where are we heading next? 🌍🚀
