September’s book buying may have got a little out of control…
And by “a little”, I mean I somehow ended the month with 20 new books.
In my defence, there were Rina Kent books sitting on an actual shop shelf, unexpected Sara Cate finds in Homesense, spicy romance in Asda and a complete series I’ve been eyeing up since 2023 waiting for me in The Works.
Honestly, what was I supposed to do? Leave them there?
A Dangerous Discovery in HMV
My first book haul of the month happened during a shopping trip to Coventry with my mum.
We went into HMV with Big Boy so he could look at the Funko Pop!s, but when we headed upstairs, I discovered that the book section had been expanded.
I was in heaven.
It was also slightly dangerous because these were full-price books—not quite the lovely prices I’m used to finding in The Works—but apparently that wasn’t enough to stop me.
Especially when I spotted Rina Kent books sitting on the shelves.
Finding her books in an actual shop is rare enough that I couldn’t simply walk away from them. I already owned books five and six in the Legacy of Gods series, so when I saw the first four sitting there, I knew they were coming home with me.
The HMV haul:
- God of Malice by Rina Kent
- God of Pain by Rina Kent
- God of Wrath by Rina Kent
- God of Ruin by Rina Kent
- Kiss the Villain by Rina Kent
- Hunt the Villain by Rina Kent
- Sweet Venom by Rina Kent
- The Daisy Chain Flower Shop by Laurie Gilmore
Apparently, once I’d started picking up Rina Kent books, there was no stopping me. The pile just kept growing.
At least the first four books in the Legacy of Gods series can now join books five and six on my shelves. Completing a series that way practically counts as organisation, right?

Unexpected Finds in Homesense and Asda
The second little haul came from two places I wasn’t necessarily expecting to find some of these books: Homesense and Asda.
This was actually the same Homesense trip where I bought the KPop Demon Hunters noodle pots for my KPop Demon Hunters Noodle Taste Test — so apparently I left the shop with spicy noodles and spicy books.
A perfectly balanced shopping trip, if you ask me.
Homesense had several Sara Cate books, and of course I was going to pick them up—especially when I spotted The Rule of Three.
It’s part of the Salacious Legacy series, the follow-on series to the Salacious Players’ Club, so there was absolutely no chance I was leaving that one behind. I’d also heard that these editions would have sprayed edges, and just look at that gorgeous green!
Definitely a win.
Now I just need to find the others…
The Homesense and Asda haul:
- Keep Me by Sara Cate
- Promise Me by Sara Cate
- The Rule of Three by Sara Cate
- Game On by Navessa Allen
Game On came from Asda, which genuinely surprised me. I wasn’t expecting to see something quite so spicy sitting in the supermarket book section—but I am completely here for it!
After loving Lights Out, there was no way I was passing up another Navessa Allen book when it appeared during an Asda trip.

A Much-Deserved Trip to The Works
My third—and biggest—book-shopping moment came after a very long week of overtime at work.
After six weeks off with the kids, I went almost immediately into doing overtime, mostly all by my lonesome, and my body was definitely letting me know how it felt about that!
A trip to The Works for some nice, pretty books felt like a completely deserved reward.
That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
The Works haul:
- Sinners Anonymous by Somme Sketcher
- Sinners Condemned by Somme Sketcher
- Sinners Consumed by Somme Sketcher
- Sinners Atone by Somme Sketcher
- And Now, Back to You by B.K. Borison
- Forsaking Midnight by Emily McIntire
- Chasing the Fire by Paisley Hope
- At Witt’s End by Bailey Hannah
Look how colourful that stack is!
The two sprayed-edge editions were an especially lovely surprise. And Now, Back to You has illustrated characters running along the edges, while Chasing the Fire has the prettiest orange edges decorated with roses.
I’m a simple girl. Show me a pretty sprayed edge and suddenly I’m carrying another book towards the till.

The Find That Made My Heart Happy
As pretty as all the books were, the moment that really got me was seeing the Sinners Anonymous series sitting together on the shelf.
Ohhh, my heart.
I’ve been eyeing up this series since 2023, but I kept putting off buying it from Amazon. Every so often, I’d look at the books again, tell myself I would order them eventually…and then somehow never quite do it.
So, seeing all four sitting there in The Works felt like they had been waiting for me.
I genuinely wanted to cry happy tears.
Naturally, I picked up the entire series. After wanting it for that long, I certainly wasn’t going to risk leaving any of them behind and then discovering one was missing when I went back.
They’re finally mine!
September’s Final Book Count
By the end of September, I had somehow added:
- Eight books from HMV
- Three books from Homesense
- One book from Asda
- Eight books from The Works
That makes a grand total of…
20 new books!
Was September’s book buying a little excessive?
Possibly.
Do I regret it?
Absolutely not.
I completed my physical collection of the Legacy of Gods series, found more Sara Cate books, brought home some beautiful sprayed edges and finally bought the Sinners Anonymous series after wanting it for nearly three years.
After a tiring return to work and a week full of overtime, I think surrounding myself with some lovely new books was exactly the kind of reward I needed.
Finding enough room for all 20 of them on my bookshelves, however, might be a problem for another day…
Come Chat Books With Me
Which book from my September haul would you pick up first?
Have you read any of these already—and is there one I need to move straight to the top of my reading list?
Come and chat with me in the comments. I’d also love to know whether you can resist a sprayed-edge edition…because clearly, I cannot!
