A rare day off, a few tasty detours, and a sharing box that somehow became a solo mission.

Usually, a haul around here means books. Something for the ever-growing TBR, another fictional man to become mildly obsessed with… You know how it goes. But this time? Snacks took over. And quite the little selection, if I do say so myself. 😂

Thursday handed me one of those rare, golden days off work, so naturally I decided to be a proper grown-up and go buy paint for the boys’ room. Look at me, ticking off the to-do list and everything. I was feeling very responsible. For about five minutes.

But you know how it goes. One minute you’re on a mission, the next you’re wandering into every shop that catches your eye. Just a quick browse, I told myself. Famous last words.

Somewhere between Marks & Spencer, TK Maxx and Asda, my sensible browsing turned into a full-on snack adventure. Hazelnut crème, American snacks, crisps, and yes, a box of doughnuts somehow made their way into my bags. So, grab a cuppa and settle in—because this snack haul deserves a proper chat.

Marks & Spencer: Hazelnut Crème and a Very Happy Surprise

First up: a jar of M&S hazelnut crème. I am not exaggerating when I say I’m obsessed. Imagine the inside of a Kinder Bueno, but in spreadable form. Yes, it’s every bit as dreamy as you’re imagining.

Now, if I were being sensible, I’d spread it on toast or swirl it into some fancy baking. And yes, I have managed to behave myself and use it in brownies once or twice, just to prove I can.

But honestly? Most days I’m just standing in the kitchen, spoon in hand, going straight into the jar like it’s my own personal treat. No shame here. Every mouthful is pure joy.

Normally, a jar costs £4.75, which means I have to talk myself into it as a little treat. It’s one of those things I absolutely adore, but I can’t quite justify tossing it into the trolley every single week—no matter how much I want to.

So you can picture my face when I got to the till and it scanned at just £3. Suddenly, my little treat felt like a full-on win.

Hell yes!!!

Honestly, it was already destined for my kitchen cupboard, but that surprise saving at the till? That made my day. A favourite snack and a bit of extra change in my pocket—now that’s what I call a proper treat.

TK Maxx: No Books, but the American Snacks Got Me

Next stop: TK Maxx. I’m proud to report that I made it out without a single book in my basket.

Full disclosure, though: this was less about heroic self-control and more about the fact that nothing on the shelves really called to me. Let’s not pretend I’m suddenly immune to temptation.

The food and drink aisle, on the other hand, was a different story. M&M’s popcorn? Actual candy corn? I may have squeaked out loud. Priorities.

M&M’s Popcorn

I spotted the popcorn because, honestly, who can resist tiny M&M’s hiding in popcorn? That just sounded like the sort of snack that would make my inner child do a happy dance. Sometimes you don’t need a better reason to toss something in your basket.

Popcorn on its own? Always a treat. But throw in mini M&M’s and suddenly I’m making absolutely no promises about sharing.

I wasn’t even hunting for snacks, but the second I saw it, I knew it was coming home with me. This is exactly why I can’t be trusted to just have a quick wander down the TK Maxx food aisle.

Candy Corn: A Childhood Curiosity

Finding candy corn in the wild felt like spotting a unicorn. I’ve wanted to try it for actual years.

I remember seeing it in American shows as a kid and thinking, “I want some of that.” It’s one of those little things that sticks in your head, even though it’s only a sweet.

So when I spotted a bag of the real thing just sitting there in TK Maxx, you’d better believe it went straight in my basket. Honestly, my inner eight-year-old was practically doing cartwheels.

Well, the verdict is in: childhood curiosity officially satisfied. I finally tried it! It’s mostly just sweet, with that soft, fondant-y texture I always imagined. Maybe there’s a whisper of honey if you really concentrate, but otherwise, it’s just… sweet. Like, really sweet.

So after all those years of wondering, it turns out candy corn is basically sugar in a cute little triangle. Not life-changing, but I can finally cross it off my snack bucket list!

Asda: Christmas Crisps and a Traitors Treat

I popped into Asda for my last stop on the way home and nearly tripped over a mountain of mince pies. The Christmas snack aisle is already in full festive mode, twinkling at me like it knows exactly how easily I can be tempted.

Somehow, I managed to tick off both Halloween and Christmas in a single shopping trip. If only the rest of my life could be this organised!

Party Mix Crisps in BBQ and Prawn Cocktail

I spotted Party Mix crisps in BBQ and prawn cocktail — two flavours I’d never seen before. Obviously, I had to grab them. Curiosity (and a slight weakness for anything new in the snack aisle) wins every time.

By this point, my basket was already a sugar-fest, so tossing in some crisps felt like balance. Or at least, that’s what I’m telling myself. Sweet, savoury, sorted.

Krispy Kreme’s The Traitors Doughnuts

I was just minding my own business, heading for the tills, when the Krispy Kreme stand appeared in my path like some kind of sugary siren.

And there it was, practically glowing: the very last box of The Traitors doughnuts.

Honestly, with Celebrity The Traitors waiting for us at home, how could I possibly leave the themed doughnuts behind? The last box, just sitting there, practically begging to be part of our TV night. Into the basket they went, no regrets.

The best part? The filling reveals all: orange for the Faithful, green for the Traitor. I may have spent a little too long deciding which one to eat first.

The sensible thing would have been to share them out and play detective, guessing who’s a Faithful and who’s a Traitor. But you know me—I couldn’t resist. I ended up tackling the whole cast solo, like some slightly unhinged one-woman Round Table. Honestly, no regrets.

And of course, I munched my way through the lot while watching. It just felt right.

So that was my little Thursday shopping detour: a rare day off, a paint-shopping mission and several very successful distractions.

The hazelnut crème was an old favourite with a lovely surprise at the till, the American snacks brought a bit of curiosity, and the doughnuts had their evening’s purpose sorted before I’d even left the shop.

Sometimes a little browse deserves a blog post of its own. Especially when there’s a spoon and a jar of hazelnut crème involved.

Which of these would have come home with you—and please tell me I’m not the only one eating that crème straight from the jar? 🤭
